Dier need status

I have been in contact with my congress person for years, the person I have been e-mailing back and fourth sent me a e-mail asking me if I was in a dire need status, What is that? She told me to go thru my lawyer or she can help me do that. I don't understand? After my last appeal to the appeals council I was in contact with her and ask after they remanded it back if I would have to wait another year or two to get the hearing, and she said no because it is treated as a dire need. And she was right I got my hearing in about three months.

A typo?? Maybe they meant " dire need status"??
[ Urgent; desperate: in dire need; dire poverty.]

Usually they want copies of unpaid utility, mortgage or rent payments. If you're in jeopardy of losing your home or other serious financial consequences than you're bumped to the front of the line.
