Oxtellar XR
Has anyone with epilepsy tried this new drug? I was offered it but it didn't seem like a good fit for me. Wondering if they have a patient starter kit to help get started
Thanks |
Welcome to NeuroTalk:
This appears to be only a new form of an older drug Trileptal. This is extended release, so perhaps would give a smoother response. But the drug itself is far from new. You can look up Trileptal for the side effect profile etc. http://www.oxtellarxr.com/ |
Hi defuni,
Welcome to the forum! I have never taken Oxtellar XR but I have taken Trileptal in the past and this drug is a lot like trileptal. I will tell you while on this drug you must stay away from grapefruit and grapefruit juice because the enzymes in the fruit will mess up the med also be careful if you have to take any antibiotics because antibiotics can cause this drug to be toxic. I haven't heard of a starter kit for this drug you might want to check with your pharmacist to get the best info. I've found they know much more about meds than any Dr. I've ever dealt with. To find which AED (sz. med) works the best get a DNA test done and the lab can match up the enzymes and chemicals in your body to the best AED to take with the least side effect. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You! Sue |
I've been on Trileptal since it was new ..... I've done OK.
Surgery in 2006 and 2007 and I'm still on it. I think I will be for the rest of my life. |
