No sleep for the weary....

I am 5, almost six days post implant surgery and despite the painkillers, I am dealing with no sleep. It is currently 2:15 am and I've taken my ambien for the night, Percocet, muscle relaxer....so you'd think I'd be dead to the world right now. Not so!!
I am still awake, still in pain, and have taken my last flexeril.
Don't know what to do now.

I'm trying to remember this BLAST, but find myself forgetting whilst doing one or the other until pain reminds me that NO!! I shouldn't be doing that!
What to do, what to do......I've had my mom here all day since the surgery, so I don't forget blast during that time, but I only have her for one more day and then she has to return to work and I'm home alone all day. I'm afraid I'm going to ruin all the work my wonderful surgeon has done! There is no one to be here with me. At least not till kids are home from school.

Well, I've vented and now I will go lie down, carefully, and try to sleep.

Do you have rsd? I find it has always messed up my sleep. Especially during surgery. I hope you get rest soon.

Trying ....

Doing everything I can to be tired enough to sleep. Of course, being tired really isn't the issue.
I will try to keep that journal, Eva...thank you for the suggestion.

I am having some newer, more intense pain, so not going lightly on the pain meds like I was trying to do today. It just started tonight. A stabbing pain in my back, to the right of the incision. Not sure why I'm noticing it more now. Very strange. In fact, it's hurting to type this.

Thanks again for the caring, thoughtful responses.

I tried to respond a few days ago and it didn't post  I would contact the doc and ask if this level of post op pain was normal. It is pretty darn hard to heal if you can't sleep and would mention that.

I get pretty angry when we are allowed to suffer at home at a level that is not allowed in the hospital setting. I am sick of hearing that I can't be given what I need because I would need to be monitored. I was flat out told that my implant would be done outpatient, regardless of post op pain because medicare would not cover admitting me for pain or basic nursing care/observation. I hate hit and run surgery. I rant.

Could it be the uncontrolled pain? Duh! Still no date for the revision. Of course it will be done on a hit and run basis. This better work as I am at the end of my rope and the knot has slipped. Sorry, my issues. Hugs and prayers.

Hello

I agree with spiny. Call your doctor, and let him know you are in this kind of pain and distress. You are still very early into your healing. I hope the doctor can give you a bit more help so you can rest. Soma is a muscle relaxant that seems to have a good reputation. I sure hope you can get some sleep soon. No sleep makes the pain worse. Sending good thoughts your way. ginnie:hug:

Hope you get feeling better soon! Having insomnia is no fun. You need to be able to escape from the pain and heal. I hope your pain level goes down soon. You could try some clonazepam. You can take it with ambian. i do. This helps me to sleep and I have chronic pain and a sleep disorder. Best wishes.
