MG and MS

I am currently suffering from mg I was diagnosed at22 and now I'm 33 I have in this time had numerous flair ups that required hospitalization for IVIG and I had the surgery but it didn't help now they think I may have ms due to new symptoms but they are doing tests too rule out other conditions with similar symptoms wondering if anyone else has had this happen

I cannot imagine what you are feeling right now. Being diagnosed with Mg at 22 alone must of been difficult. I pray that you have family and good friend to help you. God has helped me through He alone keeps me going. You are in my prayers, and may God aid your doctors hands. We are here as a group for you as well. MS and MG I could never imagine. Prayers are with you.

Miranda,

What levels are really high?

MG antibody levels do not necessarily correlate with increased weakness. Is your MG worse right now?

Do you mind saying what your new symptoms are? Have they tested you for a vitamin B12 deficiency? Have they done any other tests?

I'm really sorry you're not doing well and are facing another possible disease. Some people with MG do get MS and vice versa.

It sounds like your doctors are taking good care of you. I hope they can figure things out soon!

Annie, what tests should they do for a B12 deficiency? Just b12 or a cbc?

Kathie, They do a specific vitamin B12 level. No, it's not normally in a CBC but can be in an anemia profile (not always). Do you have symptoms of a deficiency?

The range for "normal" B12 can vary from lab to lab. Even if you have a value in the normal range, if you have symptoms, you might not be getting enough B12 to your tissues. A certain amount is stored in our liver. When the B12 level starts to drop, that means nothing is left for the liver to give you. Someone I know had levels in the 300's with symptoms and they went away after having sublingual methylcobalamin for a few months. It can take as long to recover from a deficiency as you've had it.

Also, my homocysteine was elevated during my B12 deficiency. That and methylmalonic acid can be elevated during one.

Does that answer any questions that you have?

I do not want to hijack the thread. I will start a new thread but I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid, besides MG. They are investigating hypoparathyroid too. Some of my cbc indices have been off for a while though my b12 is normal and I read that MG, hypothyroid and pernicious anemia (b12) are often found together.

I will post a new thread later

thanks
kathie
