Latest blood results

I don't have the print-out yet, but I quickly went over them with the doc over the phone.

First of all, I can confirm that oral B-12 methylcobalamin works perfectly for me. I went from 375 in November to 1296 yesterday. I started taking the 5000mcg (Swanson in my case) in January. That value is slightly higher than the highest value recorded when I was still getting hydrocobalamin injections. (tests from the same lab)

The optimized folate seems to work even better, as I went from 1.8 mcg/L to 17 mcg/L - which is high, so I'm stopping this for now.

Vit D. is a lot better too. I went from untracable (yes...) in 2011 to 40 ng/mL, taking 2 x 2000IU per day.

Liver values are excellent - you can't even see I had been a drinker.

The only problem is LDL/cholesterol. Apparently that's at 283, and although blood pressure is OK (130/80), the doc thinks I should start taking medication. She knows about the risks of statins, and suggests Liphanthyl. I haven't done any research on that yet, will do that now. (also saw mention of the cayenne tablets...)

All in all pretty good, and more proof that the B12 tablets work as advertised. :)

Fibrates have been seen as causing neuropathy:

Your other tests look good. Did you stop the supplements a few days before testing?

Hmm, that doesn't look good. As I'm feeling slightly better these days, there's no way I'm going to start taking that.

OK, I have a better plan. In a couple of days I'm celebrating 1 year of sobriety. On that day, I'm going to stop... smoking.

I obviously know how bad it is, but I didn't want to rock the boat too much after quitting the booze. But this seems like an excellent moment to bite that bullet as well. I guess it's not bad for the PN either...

As for your question: I stopped only 3 days before the test because my appointment was sooner than I had anticipated. So it may be artificially high, but I have no intention to stop taking the B12/D3 anyway. :)

3 days may be enough. Just to get the vitamins out of the serum and into tissues.

Quitting smoking will improve your circulation so that is a very good move.;) Good luck!

How much of a false positive would the blood tests show if one only stopped taking the vitamins 24 hours before a blood test? Let's say B12?

Once someone is over 1,000 for B12 should they stop? Isn't there a point where too much B12 can be bad? There are some articles online that claim B12 over 1,000 can cause problems.

B12 I have read in a reference...from injections, leaves the blood in about 72 hrs. I'd expect the oral to be similar.

The injection, is a depot shot however into muscle and time would be an issue for most of the absorption. Also the injection provides much more than an oral version would.

I know when I take my thyroid T4 the day of my testing, I sometimes have "free T4 elevations" show up. So now I skip it that day when I have blood work done to measure it.

This may vary in people too when other factors are present depending on the person.
