When can I stop doing physical therapy for my neck?

I was released by my physical therapist in late February, because I was doing really well, wasn't having headaches anymore, or really any pain in my neck. But she told me to keep doing my exercises because I was still very unstable and weak in my upper vertebrae. So I dutifully kept doing my physical therapy until this week (except when I was on vacation). Do you think it's okay if I stop physical therapy? How can I tell if I am strong enough in my upper vertebrae to not need it anymore? Or do people who have repeated whiplash-type injuries do physical therapy exercises for the rest of their life? Thanks for any input.

Just from my own exp, w/PT for RSI/TOS (neck strains etc), I tapered down my exercises/stretches and as long as I felt I was doing OK, then stopped.
If I felt anything questionable pain/symptoms wise increasing, then I started the PT stuff up again.
