Need some help and ideas
This is somewhat of a challenge for me.
Because of health reasons I'm looking for another area to move into. Some of the things I'm looking for are these: Lower altitude than 6,000+ Better winters than below zero and windy Close to a major airport (perhaps central or by east coast?) No lizards in area (hate those suckers!!) Low housing prices I'm not looking for a huge city, a small quiet place will do just fine. Honestly, I wouldn't mind living in a remote area either. Hope you guys can give me some ideas because searching the internet is keeping me awake at night and I'm coming up empty or with some bad areas for a woman to live alone. |

Based on that description, I would suggest central or southern Indiana or the Charlotte area of North Carolina.... but I live in frozen New England so I don't know much about Indiana or North Carolina except for the fact that when I visited both I was highly impressed and we considered moving to both places.

Lets see, I don;t think I could give you everything you want but at least half ??
East Coast, about 40 miles to major airport haven't seen a lizard since 1984 about 5 hrs to coast line 20 min. to Mountains, and I do mean beautiful mmountains 4 large lakes and at least 1 small one near by Can't remember what else you wanted, but ah yes, weather generally perfect, not too hot, no too cold. every few years we may have a snoe, but it doesn't linger I'll get back to you if I think of more:) JoJo |
Southern Indiana was a good suggestion...I'd say Franklin Indiana because it isn't that far from Indianapolis...they don't get the snow we get in Northern Indiana.

if I could choose a place in the US to move to tomorrow I think it would be Sedona or Prescott in Arizona. I visited there a few years ago and I loved it...... Supposed to be amongst the healthiest places to be, and not subject to quite the same heat intensity of Phoenix or Tucson but, guess there are likely lizards cos it's warm there you definitely do NOT want to come to Florida if you dont like lizards.......they rule the place here and are everywhere in every shape and size from teensie tiny dudes to extrememly large gators. And they inhabit neighborhoods in cities as well as rural areas. |
Well...the thing with lizards is this. I grew up in a tropical island where there are more lizards than people and for some reason they loved to go after me.
I'd wake up in the middle of the night and one (or more) was tangled between my legs under the sheets. Fell out of bed many times trying to get out of it fast enough. Went to girl scout's camp one summer and woke up everybody when a lizard jumped on my arm while I was trying to sleep (in the dark). Oh, yeah! Bunk beds, I had the top one and fell of that one too. No problem with anything else. Love snakes too! Just can't handle lizards. Yes, I'd like to stay in the states because of med treatment. Indiana? I'm a little south of you (WY) and winters are really cold here. The wind is the worse, it will take the temps below zero. Would love Australia but right now it would be too far from my family who is in the Caribbean and it would be too expensive to travel back and forth. |

I have been to all but 6 states in the U.S. and those are Northern states where it is brrr cold in the winters so these would be out of the picture. Hmmm. Lizards..I have seen these little creatures everywhere. They stay outside and I rarely see them indoors. They won't hurt you. I have picked one up when I saw it in the way of a lawnmower. I like Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky and parts of Tennessee, i.e. Nashville, Knoxville if I were making a change with your criteria. Parts of Texas can get brutally hot but the amenities surpass the heat. (Not northern Texas as they can get some brutal snowstorms) San Antonio, I would actively explore. (Not Austin, too expensive) I love Louisville,Lexington, Paducka (sp) area, Kentucky. More all round weather and not too much of this and that. The places I have mentioned all have major airports and great medical centers. (Atlanta's airport though can be a nightmare) Now get busy and open up your Atlas. |
