Sluggish Cognitive Tempo
Does anyone know much about this and whether or not it will be differentiated from ADHD in the DSM? Are there psychologists studying it that I could contact? I would like to learn more but am hitting a brick wall.
Just so no one is confused by my siggy, I usually frequent the TBI/PCS board, but I also have ADHD and the description of sluggish cognitive tempo fits me perfectly. |
Hi there
You may find some info at PsychCentral. If you use the Search function, it'll bring up some topics on the SCT. You could try searching "Slow Cognitive Tempo", "Underarousal", "Slow Cognitive Processing Speed" as well as "Sluggish Cognitive Tempo". http://psychcentral.com/ http://psychcentral.com/blog/archive...nst-the-dsm-5/ Some of the Empty Arguments Against the DSM-5 By John M. Grohol, Psy.D. eg. http://blogs.psychcentral.com/adhd-z...ould-you-care/ DSM Revisions and ADHD: Should You Care? By Zoë Kessler, BA, B.Ed. That's just a couple. There are many more. http://www.tourettesyndrome.net/diso...-in-adulthood/ ADDults: ADHD in Adulthood by Leslie E. Packer, PhD Russell Barkley, PhD might be someone to search for - He's mentioned in the research background of DSM section on ADHD and elsewhere. http://www.dsm5.org/research/pages/e...der,juven.aspx http://www.adhdbasics.org/ref/DSM-V.pdf from DSM-5 development page Draft DSM-V Criteria for ADHD (changes italicized) Not totally sure if that last link is totally up to date. Gosh, all this DSM-5 info seems all a bit top-secret to me after trying to find more. I guess if it's added in the new Edition we'll only find out when the book is released. lol sheesh. |
Thanks for the info!
I'll look into it when I can. (My eyes are acting up right now!) I did watch an excellent YouTube video by Russell Barkley, but that's about all I found! I also emailed him and he's not doing any studies right now.
Thanks! I'm excited to look into this more. |
Hey there DFayesMom...
I hope you're feeling a lot better than you were when you posted here last. Just came across this when I was checking out some things regarding DSM 5. Not sure if it contains the info. you were after, but here it is anyway. There is a lot of discussion and MUCH controversy in the news at the moment regarding this manual. Anyway, Dr John has some straight out facts over on PsychCentral. Here is just the section on ADHD changes. http://pro.psychcentral.com/2013/dsm...d/004321.html# DSM-5 Changes: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) By John M.
