Return of dizziness--unsettling!

I'm not super dizzy, but I have been experiencing low-level dizziness since yesterday afternoon. I had a very busy weekend, traveling 2 hours to my parents, having my daughter's birthday party, spending the night, and riding two hours back. Then yesterday morning, my daughter's head bumped mine, not very hard though. I dropped her at day care and then spent two hours on the computer--which I haven't done for over a month.

It was shortly thereafter that I noticed the dizziness. I went to my vision therapist today, and she thought maybe it was he cumulative effect of the busy weekend, the head bump, and the computer usage. She just suggested I take it easy today and tomorrow and see how I feel. I thought my dizziness was totally gone, so I'm very worried!

I talked to my neuro-op and he said he had just gone to a conference where he learned new info and techniques that he thinks will help me and that I will need to do some more of the sensory integration therapy. I am frustrated because it just seems like it could be a long time that I'm doing therapy and a lot of money that I'm spending. Any thoughts?

I'm freaking out!

My dizziness was gone for a month and then out of nowhere, I'm feeling dizzy again! Why? What did I do? Ugh! Pray for me that it goes away and I wake up fIne tomorrow!

I had a Very bad period last month. Huge setbacks. I was overtired from a lot of activity and I gave myself BPPV (vertigo) from trying to dance with the WII fit! I turned around quickly and moved my head up and down. Not good. You may have BPPV - a head trauma can dislodge crystals in the inner ear which then send false messages to the brain and produce vertigo! On top of the concussion dizzyness. You can get that assessed by a vestibular therapist. They can get you to do a maneuvre to get the crystals back in place. Do you have nystagmus? That can be a sign of BPPV.
Just an idea, as many people with head trauma develop this!
Hope you feel better soon. Ups and downs. Slow healing. But it will come.

Hi Mokey,

Are you doing any better now? It sounds like they fixed the dizziness, right?

I have a call into my vestibular therapist just to ask her opinion, but since vestibular therapy didn't help me, I feel like it has to be my eyes. I do not have nystagmus, and I did have a VPN test, so I think that would have caught it. Could I still have BPPV?

My dizziness is very low level but seems present all the time, whereas I used to just get dizziness with movement, but it does get worse with any movement. My vision therapist said it could be allergy related but that seems unlikely to me. I guess I just mostly feel kind of high, like someone drugged me.

I can't decide if I feel better at all this morning. I guess I'll just go on with my day trying to rest as much as I can and see how I feel.

Funnily enough, I've been wanting to try playing Just Dance on my Wii for weeks, and yesterday was going to be the big day, but I guess I'll have to wait a while still for that!

Relapses

I know I relapsed a little on Monday from an overactive Sunday.

I took a much longer walk than ususal, got up early to help clean up from post prom, and we traveled up to Mpls to see son in college.

I didn't feel dizzy, but extra tired for sure and had a 2 hr. nap as a result and felt a bit more sound sensitive.

I am sure it was from Sunday.

For me, this whole process is a learning curve of how much is enough, what is too much, and what will be the results of too much.

I pray for your dizziness to go away.

Sincerely,

Poetrymom

Thought it was gone for good!

I've just been free of dizziness for about a month now, and I haven't had any setbacks except for eye pain, so I just thought I was in the clear. Now I'm wondering if thE hit to the head I had may have caused something not eye related. I don't know . . .

Hi Difayes mom,

I am feeling better this month. It really does come and go. I wonder if those bad periods are times of consolidation which precede a gain! Or do we just feel better compared to how awful we felt! :)

When the neuro-opth. Tested for nystagmus last week, she saw none. But the vestibular therapist and another doctor did another test where they 'throw' you back with your head to the side and then observe your eye movements. I test positive when they do that. So it may be possible you have some BPPV which, like me, is not always active but brings on bad dizzyness and nausea when a sudden move or something happens.

I hope you feel better soon. I can see how upsetting it is to get a bump on the head and then worry what is going on. I don't know how people cope with having more than one concussion! Hang in there. It gets better slowly.

My neuro-opth. Told me this week that it can take 3-5 years of gradual healing. I was happy to hear that because I don't want this state to be as good as it gets!

A little better but

I'm still experiencing dizziness with movement and I feel pressure in my head. I honestly am not sure what is causing it. The pressure and dizziness seem worse when I bend over or make quick movements. I've been resting as much as possible and it has helped, but I haven't recovered completely. It is stressful to me that I am still this fragile after feeling pretty dang good for a whole month.

Update

My vestibular physical therapist thinks that the fact i stopped doing my neck strengthening exercises could be the cause, because I am so unstable in my upper vertebrae. I'm starting my exercises again. She says I will probably have to do them the rest of my life. I didn't realize that, so when I felt physically better but started feeling depressed, I just stopped doing them.
