Toe Numbness??

Okay, I was an idiot and tried chiropractic at the advice of my pain Dr. (go figure).. anyway I had low back pain (sometimes radiating down into the left buttocks)

and then after 2 weeks of chiropractic I had excruitiating pain, can barely walk, had a fire/tingling feeling in the back of my right thigh area and a stabbing pain in my heal. I went and got thai stretching massage that got rid of most of the pain.

However, I still have numbness in my 2nd, third and fourth toes (like the end of the toe).. What in the heck is going on??

any ideas?

thanks.

J.

Sounds to me like sciatica, which starts in the back, goes into the butt, down the leg and into the foot. Sometimes it's patchy too, from what I've found. I've had it for 27 years, and there are times various parts of my leg hurt at different times. At times just my "butt" hurts, and other times my calf will hurt or my foot.

STAY AWAY FROM CHIROPRATORS until you find out exactly what is wrong with you!!! Ask your doctor for an MRI with and without contrast material to see what he can find out. Sciatica is NOT seen on an MRI, but just about everything else is - so you need a diagnosis.

If he finds you have sciatica, then your best bet would be physical therapy. Most often that will help to relieve sciatica. Pool therapy is very good for it. I wish you the very best! Let us know how you do, okay? Hugs, Lee ;)

Thank you Lee, just was strange how it's just the tip of my toes, but that was after the radiating pain that went down my whole leg went away. I've been under the care of a pain Dr. for the herniated disk in my lumbar spine for a year.. and my neck 2 years now.. argh..

the chiro just irritated thing too much by his ''snap snapping''. you got good advice to do PT. and yes the heal and toes hurting do match up to the L5/S1 nerve root. and good the injection hit the bulls eye.....pal pete

I'm glad you're feeling better, but it's TOO SOON to know if the injection is working. What you're feeling now is just the "numbing" stuff they gave you to give you the shot, I suspect. Usually it takes longer than this for the injection to begin working.

But --- could be. Who knows.

Good luck and keep us posted, okay? Hugs, Lee

shoot

Shoot, you were right.. the lidocaine wore off and the pain is back... crap.. Can't sit for very long. Some relief but not much.

I still feel the methylprednisone running through my body, but i need another shot in my neck.. i hope I dont do something crazy on all these steriods...

I talked with a coworker with low back issue and he has toe numbness, so i guess it's a common enough thing... argh..

thanks for all the feedback!

J.
