I've realised that i joined up months ago but havent posted, Have been using the latitiudes forums a lot since my son started vocal ticcing in January after nearly 2 years of very minimal motor tics. He will be 7 in Sept

I Have read Sheila Rogers book and am slowing working our way through diet changes, supplements, allergy testing etc, Possible candida/leaky gut.

Finding it hard being in Australia but we see a Neurologist on June 5th for a diagnosis and also found a nutritional and Environmental Dr who we also go see the same day. We have to travel a fair distance to see them so hope they can help us out.

Are there many families from Australia on here? I'm on the Tourettes syndrome association australia page on fb so that helps a little in connecting with others.

Just wanted to say hi to you too and believe it or not, I'm also in (not so sunny) Qld. :)

My two children are in their 20's now. All grown up and doing fine generally. Things have changed so much regarding doctor's knowledge here in Australia in the past 20 years. It was all so difficult back then. I travelled to the US and Canada and went to meetings and conferences and met the most amazing people and I learned so much from friends in online TS communities. That was about 15 years ago now. There is so much more information available here in Australia these days. That can only help.

Australia is slowly getting there, Long way to go still i feel. It would be amazing to be able to travel overseas and attend confrences, Meet people and learn more.

I was wondering if you're having to travel to Brisbane for your Neuro appointment? Bring some warm clothes and a scarf if you're heading south. :) I'm a couple hrs north of Brisbane but the nights are really cold all of a sudden. Really cold to us. To many it's probably lovely. lol
The days are great though and we need to strip off a layer or two of clothing. Just letting you know!

The main reason I travelled for info. way back then was that my son was diagnosed with Sydenham's Chorea for a number of years after age 5. That's a movement disorder that sometimes occurs in some people after having Rheumatic Fever (a Strep. -GABHS - related illness). He was subsequently differentially diagnosed with TS and a number of other comorbid conditions at age 10. I still wasn't sure they got it all correct and they didn't. Anyway, that's a long, long story and feels like ancient history now.

Edited later to add: Don't forget to take a list! Note down all your questions and relevant information to discuss with the doctors.

How's your son getting on at school and with his peers?

Yes Lara we are having to travel to Brisbane to see a Neurologist and then a environmental dr so was wondering how chilly it was down that way. Will definitely wear and pack some warmer clothes incase we stay the night. It's even getting chilly in the morning and arvo's up our way. Brrrrr

I've been keeping a record of how his tics are in frequency, what exact tic etc since the start of this year and i also have some footage on my mobile phone of him ticcing that he didn't know i was taping.

He actually started at a new school 2 weeks before easter as we moved a bit out of town. It worked well as he had 2 friends there that he has known since he was 2! He is not in their class but he has coped well and his teacher has been great, She talked to the class to explain about why He makes noises and the kids have been good about it. He is doing really well at the moment with all the changes we have been implementing, clean eating, vitamins etc. Only motor tic is a light shoulder shrug and then his vocal tic. Neither are continuos all day thankfully and heres hoping it stays this mild if or even better improves more for him :)
