The itching!
So, I am not diagnosed yet but so far many things are pointing toward MS. Have 1 lesion on my brain MRI, non on the spinal MRI but many symptoms are there. I first saw the neurologist at the end of March and she advised me to come back in 3-4 months. I felt good for a couple of weeks then the cycle of symptoms started with a vengeance. So, I see her again in 2 weeks. I do not know what the plan of action is at that time, but I am hoping for some answers and a course of some treatment. Anything at this point has to be better than this.
Today tried to do a little gardening.. which apparently was a very bad idea. After 20 minutes my entire body felt like it was vibrating from all the spasms/twitching. This was several hours ago and I'm still not "right". I am also extremely itchy with that crawly feeling. It is to the point if I don't stop myself I would/do break the skin. :( Does anybody have a good solution for the itchiness? Normal 'dry skin' solutions aren't helping. I had hopes that a cool shower, lotions, lighter clothes... something like that would help but it's not. |
i would call your dr. you can have sensory sx's (symptoms) with MS. there might be a med that would help.
also, check with your pharmacist. i've heard of oatmeal baths etc. i'm sure there are lots of things to try. you might have to try different things til you find something that works. |
Welcome Junie, good to have you here.:)

If it's neuropathic in nature nothing will relieve the itching sensation.
I have this symptom with my MS and it's maddening! Nothing helps. I usually notice it more at night and it's usually on my back.....but I've had it on my arms, legs, neck, etc. I've taken Benadryl but it usually just makes me sleepy and I can fall asleep easier. |
Thanks everybody! The neurologist I am currently working with is not very accessible. :( I've heard she is good, so might be because I have no definitive diagnosis yet; but we'll see how this next appointment goes.
I've tried some creams and oatmeal bath. Nothing is helping. I finally broke down last night and took some Advil PM so I could get some sleep. It is maddening and yes I noticed it more once I was in bed and the house and kids were quiet. It's persisting into today. If it is still present tomorrow I may try the neurologist. My PCP is reluctant to prescribe anything because he fears any medications would mess with the neurologists assessments and cause a missed or wrong diagnosis. For now I just have to deal with the day-to-day problems and keep a log. |
