My face hurts! WWYD?
Okay, so a week ago, I thought I was getting a cold, but it never manifested and I realized it was probably just my allergies. My sinus cavities just seem swollen, as it's hard for me to breathe through my nose, but I am not actually very snotty. (Ew. Sorry for sharing that!)
Yesterday, my daughter, yet again, thwacked me in the head with her head, but this time she hit me at the outside corner of my eye. It really hurt for a few seconds, but then I felt okay. After a bit, I noticed a headache and took a muscle relaxer before bed. I woke up this morning and my face just hurt, right around my sinuses--my cheeks, around my eyes and my forehead. I went to my PCP this morning for unrelated reasons and so I asked her what could be going on with my sinuses. I'd forgotten about my daughter head-butting me at that moment, so I didn't mention it. She said it could be an infection and gave me a script for antibiotics, but she seemed unconvinced, and she said that if the pain didn't resolve, I should get a ct scan of my sinuses to make sure I didn't have polyps or something else going on. (I'm sick of being ill, so I'd really rather not get another CT scan. I think I've had 3 in the last 2 years.) So do you guys think it was the head hit that caused this pain in my face? Should I wait to take the antibiotics? (I'm allergic to a lot of them and other ones cause migraines, so I hate taking them!) What would you do in my situation? |
Depends
Depends on the color of mucus?I would say if it is green or yellow then take the antibiotics. Otherwise it could be sore from the hit or allergies?Apply cold to face if it is from the hit or If allergies you can use local bee honey or lemon in water for natural antihistamine.

I've determined it's definitely sinus related, as I can hear popping in my sinuses. I know I'm overly sensitive to pain, but it does really hurt. That said, I'm still not sure it's not just really bad allergies. Still debating what to do.

The best advice that I ever got for sinus pain was from an advice nurse. She told me to get a Sinus Rinse Kit in the drugstore and use it as often as I want.
Anytime my sinuses start acting up, that's what I use. Also, drink lots and lots of water. Skip the coffee. It can irritate the sinuses. Also, take long steamy showers. The steam helps clear the sinuses. You can also take a washcloth, wet it with hot water and put that over your face. Hope you feel better soon. ShellyK |
Thanks for responding. I started the antibiotic but before I did, I started feeling really nauseous. It has not subsided. I don't have much of a headache or else I'd think I was having a migraine. My eyes feel like the worst eye strain you have ever felt. My face feels like someone used a meat tenderizer on it. I'm trying not to complain to my family, so I'm complaining here! I feel HORRIBLE. Worst thing is, it's my birthday tomorrow. :(. Okay, I'll stop the pity party. I'm just soooooo sick of feeling sick! What on earth is wrong with me?

I've been dealing with lots of sinus issues since I hit my head, and never had them in the past. I also have similar symptoms - pressure and pain in the face, sometimes a dry congested nose, odd popping and clicking coming from somewhere inside my head, ear pressure, headaches.
Try to get a referral to an ENT if you can. I had one do a CT scan of my sinuses and do a nasal endoscopy and he was able to diagnose me with sinusitis. Without these tests it is much harder to really be able to know what is going on. |
