Giving Body to science????

I'd like to know if anyone out there has found a way to give their body for scientific research for PD when they pass? This is something I would be interested in doing...if I knew how. I am not crazy about doing trials for drugs, etc , but when I am gone...they can do whatever with this bag of bones and perhaps find out (if nothing else) what taking natural food sources for PD does compared to the slew of drugs most PD'rs ingest daily. Any thoughts or a contact for me to pursue this?

Aunt Bean, I have also thought of donating my body or brain to PD research. Although, I not there 100% yet, but leaning in that direction.

I assume a major university doing PD research might be able to guide you through the process of donation. My brother-in-law in Louisville, KY has already made arrangements for his body to be donated to the University of Louisville (although not PD specific) as his mother did a few years ago.

Perhaps the MJF Foundation or one of the national PD organizations could help you in your endeavor. I know this is not for everyone but it is an important part of research. Bless you.

Here is a start from the Parkinson's Disease Foundation and MA APDA websites.

When I became part of PANUC (Pacific Northwest Udall Center), I was given the opportunity to sign up as a brain donor, which I did without hesitation. I have kids and grandkids and will do anything to help PD research.

Hi Aunt Bean

I briefly looked into this subject when I was living in Columbia Mo. There is a huge teaching university there. I was told most teaching facilities accept donation. If you are near a facility like that I don't think it would be a problem. I plan to do the same thing as I am near Tampa, with their teaching hospital. ginnie
