Welcome Back Board....issue: Fatigue

I Have Fybro But Got It Secondary To Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. I Am Tired All Of The Time..what Do You Do For The Fatigue?

Wittesea 08-27-2006 08:17 AM

Provigil.

Before provigil I was taking 3-6 naps a day and when I wasnt napping I was too tired to do anything. Now that I take Provigil, I am a normal person now who doesn't need to nap all day.

Provigil? Hmmm. Does it interfere with your nighttime sleep Wittesea?

My docs put me on Ritalin for the work days. But then, they diagnosed adult ADD along with the depression, fibro, etc. It's been a lifesaver for me at work. I only take a 5 mg dose in the morning...sometimes one in the early afternoon but not often.

It helps me with the energy and to be able to concentrate more fully.

No it does not interfere with nighttime sleep.... although for the record I have taken bedtime meds to help me sleep for the past several years (the pain and my anxiety racing mind keep me awake).

I have also been diagnosed with adult ADD, and so far the Provigil does seem to be helping with that as well, there is a pubilshed study about the effectiveness of Provigil on adult ADD.

We (doc and I) chose Provigil instead of a traditional ADD med because it is less likely to make my anxiety/panic worse... the traditional ADD meds have a higher possibility of making anxiety/panic worse than Provigil does.

I take 100mg on most days - either as a single dose in the morning, or 50mg in the am and 50mg at noon.

Some days just the 50mg in the am is enough, and other days I take 100mg in the am and then need another 50mg at noon.

As you can see, my fatigue varies greatly so my dose varies, but I have a great doc who prescribes my meds so that I have wiggle room. The prescription is for me to take up to 200mg a day as needed -- I have yet to need the full 200mg.

What works/worked for me is Effexor XR or Cymbalta.

I'm on the Effexor XR now -- the right dosage was difficult to find. My doctor just increased the dosage for my depression and it's thrown everything good out the window.

When I was on the 'correct' dosage -- for me that was 2-37.5 MB in the mornng -- I had no trouble sleeping.

Both the Effexor XR and the Cymbalta stop the pain. When the pain stops, I can sleep.

I've had fibro since 1990. I was originally taking Prozac -- that took the 'sharpness' off the pain enough so that i could function/work. But, I still had to nap every chance I got. I worked 40 hours a week and slept the weekends away. Great life, huh

With fibro, you HAVE TO sleep. That's at the top of the list -- even before eating, right after breathing.

No pain and hugs.

Barbara
