one of the first on the planet
Hello,
I was one of the first people on the planet to have a shunt placed. I have had shunt for over 40 years, originally placed in Jan '70. I am originally from Long Island, thank god I haven't lived there in over 16 years. Anyway, my suggestion in regards to locating a neurologist/neurosurgeon is New York hospital Cornell medical center in Manhattan. The neurologist that performed the surgery on me was actually a pediatric neurosurgeon, not sure if he is still practicing or heck even still alive. However, I have had 3 revisions and a replacement, that's it. I read this people that have had 3 times that in 1/3 the time and all these other issues, I have never had any issues in regards to the shunt. Anyway the Dr. Name is Russell Patterson, I also think I once saw a Dr. Peterson in the late seventies. I am not a doctor, however any questions just ask... |

One other piece of information, actually two other ways to see if a shunt is needed is a spinal tap and an opthamologist looking at the ventricles in the back of the eye.
