PWP Creativity

I’ve read many articles about PWP becoming more creative and artistic as they journey through the disease. It certainly makes sense that the alteration of brain chemicals with medications would have influence on the imaginative process. Now I’ve always been artistic, however I must confess in has been many years since I have picked up a paint brush and dabbled with my watercolors. Somehow life, i.e. husband, children, volunteering and a job put an end to my painting, although I hope to resume my painting someday. But I have noticed I’ve begun viewing everything with a different lens.

Temperatures have been in the 90’s the past few days here in the northwest hills of Connecticut, prompting my hubster to request tuna macaroni salad for dinner tonight. While preparing this feast, I listened to the symphonic masterpiece, West Side Story by the genius Leonard Bernstein, on the local NPR station. Back in the sixties my mother played the West Side Story movie soundtrack constantly; therefore by osmosis I know all the words.

What girl didn’t want to be Maria? There I was singing out loud in the kitchen, Tony, Tony. Bernstein’s melodic One Hand, One Heart playing as I chopped the veggies. After the songs finished and the announcer was talking I remembered another song…Gee, Officer Krupke. And I sang, Gee, Officer Parkinson we’re down on our knees, ‘cause no one wants a fellow with a neurodegenerative disease. Gee, Officer Parkinson, what are we to do? Gee Officer Parkinson, Krup you! I guess I am more creative. Enjoy Life!

Sounds a little like my college days when I would see things thru a different lens. Although it wasn't PD drugs back then.......

Love the lyrics. Your posts always make me laugh!
