What yr. did Social security start sending yrly statments out
I have kept every one ever sent to me. My very first one sent was in 2004. I was on SSI from 1999 to 2004, so I believe they don't send them out if someone is on disability already. While my case has gone on since 2008 I didn't receive any. When I called to ask for one, I was told I couldn't get one because I had a pending case.
After the ALJ judge and the appeals board denied me they immediately sent me out my most recent one. I never received any of these many years ago when my disability began to show me about any last date insured, because they were not sending them out then. I see they don't actually put the last date insured on the ones I do have, but they do show I haven't earned enough credits to qualify for disability. This is way too late regarding my case anyway, because like I said my first one sent out wasn't until 2004. This is just more proof this was not DISCLOSED to me unless they can PROVE they were sending them out. I've tried googling this to see when they first started sending them out, but I couldn't find anything. Does anyone know? The appeals board has now decided to grant me permission to send in more evidence regarding my disabilities, so I am currently working on doing that. https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0101305001 Found this link after I posted this; it says they first started automatically sending out statements in 1999. This was when I was on SSI, plus it's past my insured date, so I will include this with my other evidence I'm sending out to Social Security. This is more proof there's no way it was ever DISCLOSED to me regarding my last insured date. The internet wasn't even around yet when my last insured date was either, or to use to educate myself on filing claims like it is nowadays. People today are very fortunate to have the tools I did not have. Now I read they are going to stop sending out statements to save money & people can obtain them online. Has anyone gotten theirs online? |
I believe I started receiving my statements around 2001ish. Sounds like great news they are looking at more evidence for you! I wish you the best.

I also opened a My Social Security account and got my statement online last year. Probably time to check it out for this year. But the Social Security Statement is derived from the same data, the Summary Earnings Record, that is used when you file a SSDI or a retirement claim. The Social Security Statement uses the same data as the earnings record and it is the earnings record that your local office has access to that determines insured status. If there are errors in the earnings record, it has to be proven by a valid W-2 form. There have been employers who withheld FICA taxes but failed to then pay those to the appropriate government agency so those earnings won't show up on the earnings record. SSA will investigate those W-2's but not without documents or evidence. What years are incorrect, if any, on your earnings record and what evidence do you have? Many people don't keep their own paper records. I may be a bit of a packrat, but I think I could pull up every W-2 and every tax return from my filing system that I have moved with me throughout my life. The Social Security statement is not a separate proof source and the fact that you did not understand insured status years ago is not a reason that it should not apply to you. Social Security has been keeping track of earnings records and Social Security numbers since 1936; hundreds of thousands of paper files. Over time, those have all been converted to electronic files and now, just about everything would be electronic. |
I still have my very first statement. It's dated 1969. I worked a summer job the previous year (very first job ever!) right before I started college.
I framed the statement. That's how proud I was. :o |
I'm sorry that I don't recall details of your history, Halo. How did it come to be that you started receiving SSI in 1999, but weren't considered for SSDI at that time ?
Or were you told that you were already past your last insured date then ? Why didn't you apply when you first became disabled ? |
