spinal stenosis and knee?
Hi, I was diagnosed with moderately severe spinal stenosis in the area of the 4th and fifth lumbar vertabre. I also have a fused 5th lumbar and sacral area. I was born with that, I mean. Besides the pain in the back and legs in general, I am having toruble with my right knee. Now I have had problems with the knee a long time. About a year ago I had it exrayed and there was water on the knee and arthritis, I went to see the doctor and she suspected a torn miniscus. I gradually got better. Now the pain is totally different, and I am wondering if the back problems have anything to do with it. I will be walking around and suddenly it will have sharp pains and I can barely bear weight on it. Other times I cant straighten it due to pain, I had to take my hands and straighten it. The pain with the first injury was constant. No difference in back pain, it hurts a lot when I first get up, and when I stand or walk. In between drs right now due to move.

I'd talk to your doctor and have the knee checked out again.

Sometimes our knees become troublesome because of the way we walk -- we change the way we walk because of our backs!! We tend to try to protect our back and ease the pain, so we change the way we walk -- and that causes big problems with our knees. I've seen this happen many times.
If you can manage it, be aware of how you walk -- try to walk erect, straight, etc., and don't compromise for your back OR your knee. You may have to endure some pain in the process -- put a knee brace on, one of the elastic ones if you don't already have one. ;) God bless and take care. Hugs, Lee |
