Crappy doctors
Hi ED,
It seems like you have had to deal with some crappy doctors that didn't know anything about concussions. Sorry about that! It is not in your head. All of us know that. You're most likely suffering from postconcussion syndrome. The best treatment for this syndrome is lowering stress and activity levels and resting as much as possible. It can be quite a challenge! It is possible to get better and recovery times vary, so don't believe any doctor that tells you that you should be better within a certain timeframe. Your dizziness could be caused by several things, so it's important to be evaluated so you can find out which therapies or treatments would be most helpful. In my case, I needed vision therapy after being diagnosed by a neuro optometrist. A regular Optometrist or ophthalmologist will not be able to diagnose you. It could also be a problem with your ears, but I think the most likely cause is damage to your vestibular system. Vestibular therapy can help. If you let people know the area where you live, people may be able to make more specific recommendations as to doctors or therapist that could help you. Good luck! |

A couple of thoughts. I understand your frustration, and I'm sure it seems like forever, but 12 weeks is not all that long in recovering from a brain injury. I'd suggest that blaming yourself is not productive. You fell on some ice. I walked in front of a moving train. As we go through life stuff happens. The important thing now is how to best recover and move forward. The more you can tell us about yourself the better NT members will be able to help with advice and experience. Additionally, there are brain injury resources in most states. http://www.biausa.org/state-affiliates.htm Hopefully your new neurologist will have additional ideas for you in regards to therpies that can help resolve your symptoms. Recovery is a journey. Best to you as you proceed. :grouphug: |
