In pain 24/7

Hello I am a 37 year old who has worked in the medical field for the last 15 years until 2011 I fell getting out of the tub before work thought I has broke my tail bone so went on into work and had the Dr I work for order an xray it showed nothing so I continued to work with the pain the next day I had the dr order an mri because the pain was getting more than I could handle had the mri it showed 2 disc had broke and I has fragments and 4 disc where Hernated so the dr decided I need to see a Neuro Surgeon so I had to wait a week to see him tried to work but was unable so the dr put me off work till I seen the neuro surgeon. Finally seen the Neuro Surgeon and he looked at mri and said my back looked like the back of a 60 year old person not what I wonted to hear and he said that the only way to fix this was to a Discotomy so he was the dr so we scheduled surgery, so had it June 1, 2011 felt good for about 2 months and then the pain came back went back do the surgeon had another mri and had another disc that broke so had another discotomy on 8/31/2011 was doing really good was so hoping to go back to work but my work requried that I see one of there doctors so I did and he told me that I would never be able to go back to work for the nerve damage I had in my back and not being able to left more than 3 pounds not the news I wonted to hear in Novemeber the pain had came back worst than every before so back to the neuro surgeon this time he said we where going to have to do a fusion in my back that was the only way to stop the pain and the disc from breaking I ask several question and he assured me this would stop the pain, I even went an got another opinion and they told me the same thing so on 1/5/2012 I had my fusion of L5-S1 the recovery from this was horrible could not get out of bed for a week had to have help doing everything and I forgot to mention I lost my job but back to the pain it was horrible went back for a follow up and told him how bad the pain was and he said we need to sent you to pain Mangement for pain control so off to see another Dr so went there and for several months we tried several different medicine to control my pain and we still have not got one to help it so we talked about me having a spinal cord stimulator put in read all about and the Sucuess rate on it was very good and people seems to haven gotten alot of pain relief so I thought might as well give it a try so I did on 11/30/2012 we done trial on it where they let you wear it for about a week to see how you do with it done pretty good with got finally got some pain relief so after the week was up we decided to schedule to have it put in so on 1/16/2013 I had it put it help for the first couple of months and now my pain level it way up there we have tried several different medicine and still no help so the dr has advised to have a spinal injection not sure about them it Having a really hard time with the pain and depression My husband it a big help and I have friend going through the same thing so I can talk to her. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem I have had and if anyone has had the spinal injection thank

Hi there Dollie-
My poor luv-u have really been through it- I feel for u and know so very well how horrible this all is- I am 34 and your story is remarkably similar to mine! Mine started at 19 after a car accident, I was getting horrific pain- had a scan- Dr said same thing! I however started with these injection s - now I'm 4 spinal surgeries and countless medical issues down the road. And have now been diagnosed with a large brain tumour- its all a bit too much currently!! Anyway to the master in hand- my spinal probs were originally herniated discs at the time at L2/3/4/5 S1 &S2 -I had 4 sets of intrathecal steroid injections into my nerve roots for the pain. I'm not gonna lie- they are very painful as they have to find the correct area causing the pain otherwise it is a pointless procedure.
Step by step I will explain- you lay face down ; free from strapping - with your arms stretched out in front, and generally a very lovely hospital tech holding them and telling you to hurt them if you need to ! The surgeon will use a thin flexible needle cannula to insert the very thin needle into the area where the pain is genorating- for you L5 /s1 - every few seconds he will take an xray image to check his entry trajectory to ensure he will hit the correct area as the nerve root affecting you is so tiny- btw the xray unit is fixed over you so you will not need to move am inch- when he his the nerve your body can not help but react- it is the most intense burning heat you will ever feel, and they say "is this recreating the pain' I remember I was like- "is the same pain but more' they in a matter of second s inject the steps and your done! For me the pain relief did work but surgically I got so much worse and that had to be sorted-"I'm literally just returning to this treatment- its early days treatment really or if nothing else is working- in all honesty- it sounds worse than it is- and if it helps it really is worth it- I wish you well and so much love- would really love to hear how you choose our get on and off you ever fancy a chat email me anytime! This is my first ever post so please excuse me waffling- but from one lady struggling with pain and health to another - I send you lots of love and hugs - take good care of u xxx

Are we twins?

Dollie, WOW. Reading your post was like reading my exact medical history with my back!! Severe degenerative arthritis and a blown disk started it all. I underwent two diskectomies, then a spinal fusion L3-S1, all that failed. I was sent to a pain management doctor (who is my hero) and we did a whole bunch of spine injections. The epidurals never worked for me but the caudal blocks DID. I had over 15 of these injections in total... I also had a spinal cord stimulator implanted. Sadly, learned several years ago that I have a clotting disorder and have to take blood thinners, which stopped me from receiving any more spine injections. Too bad, I really miss how they worked for a good while.

The one thing I would advise you is to make sure the doctor doing your injections is a board certified anesthesiologist, because that's what my doc is and he is the BEST.

Now I rely on medications, chiropractor and massage therapy for pain control. I am never below about a level 6 pain and I have learned to live with it at that level. I can't do everything, but I can do lots of things for limited periods of time. You hang in there hon.

Hi there.

Just wanted to say Welcome. I read your whole post. You have been through the ringer haven't you? My husband had the epidural injections. Set of 3. He had had them years ago and they didn't do anything. This time around, they didn't do anything either. They told him he has severe spinal stenosis, He has relegated himself to using Bengay all the time and I massage him. He has a bit of trouble walking (he has peripheral neuropathy (probably because of pinched nerves on his back). He has had PN for 20 years.

Everytime I read what pain all of you are going through, I tell myself to not feel so bad for myself. I hope you surely get some relief soon.

Just wanted to send you a hug.

Hi Dollie ~ It sounds like MY story. I had 2 OPEN surgeries on L3-4 and L4-5, and both were failures. I went to pain management, and they couldn't relieve the pain with medications, so decided to put the Spinal Cord Stimulator in. They did that, and i had it in for 6 months. It didn't really help much - and then because I was pretty thin, the "generator" started working itself OUT of me!!! The corners of the darn thing began sticking out of my skin! So the WHOLE ball of wax had to be taken out -- leads and everything -- and now i'm left with scar tissue where the leads were in my upper back. That's causing some problems.

I have herniations from the cervical spine all the way down to L5-S1, plus compression fractures, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, etc. "Aint this fun?"

Now because i've had everything done to me that a pain management clinic can do, they won't take me anymore. So my GP has to prescribe for me. He's worked very hard to try to find something to ease my pain, and finally found a combo of meds that "kind of" helps. It's better than anything i've been on before.

And by the way -- the Injections have NEVER worked for me! They've MADE me try them several times, and not ONCE did they work.
One word of warning -- if the FIRST one doesn't work, do NOT let them talk you into another one. They do NOT "build up" in your system. That's a common belief, but it's not true. Read the medical journals -- just "Google" spinal injections. Not only that, but they are NOt good for the body. So again, if the first one doesn't work, don't let them do a second!!!

God bless and please take care! Hugs, Lee ;)

Constant pain!!!! I am so sick of this ya'll!!!!

I have carpal tunnel, pinched nerves in C6 and T5
I take Lyrica 75mg and Hydro 10-325 but the problem is that they don't last but about 3 hours max.
I feel electricity flowing rampant thoughout my body including my Head.
I know this sounds like I should be in the nut-house, but what I feel is Real as can be.
I was in a severe car accident in May of 2006 and was in ICU for approx. 3 months. I almost lost my life but thanks to the doctors and of course GOD, they saved my life for some reason.
If it wasn't for these medications know telling what I might do to myself.
I go to a Psych. here close to home. He does not think I am crazy thank GOD or I probably would be in a rubber room.
I have had all kinds of blood test on me and MRI's, EMG, EKG, Nerve Conduction Test, which showed the carpal tunnel and the Vert. C6 and T5 are pinched is what I was told about 2 months ago or so.
My Pain Mgmt doctor here told me that if I chose to have yet another surgery then it will only be a 50/50 chance. Heck that does not sound good to me.
I take Trazadone for sleep and my pysch also gave me some Elavil for sleep/pain but he said to be sure that I don't take both of them at the same time because it could be life-threating.
I had surgery February 2012 on my neck because I was bone on bone and my neuro-surgeon but some cushion in there or something like that.
I am a very petite woman. I take it after my grandfather which is a full-blooded Italian. I am 5'5" tall and I only weigh 110. My weight fluctuates, I can get up to about 140, but I lose weigh quicker then I can gain it. I feel that it is due to stress, well a number of things really.
I worry my self sick over this mess.
My entire body feels like electricity most of the time and I will have burning sensations, numbness, tingling, hot, cold.
OH MY GOSH YA'll
CAN YOU OR ANYONE OUT THERE HELP ME PLEASE!!!!
I WOULD SO GREATLY APPRECIATE THIS PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!!!
I am so glad that I found this sight.
