Physical Therapy
 

Has anyone else had physical therapy for MG? My family doctor wants home health to come in for o2, physical therapy, etc. I am having a really rough spot right now, unable to hold up my head, 120 mg mestinon every 2 hours, can't see neuro until next Monday, but I am definitly calling first thing in the morning. I also have 95 o2 sat, I don't know why I would need o2 and I thought I read somewhere that mgrs shouldn't be on o2? thank you all, I am sorry this isn't written very well but I am having trouble just getting it out.

Since we cannot see you and your current level of function, and your doctor feels you need those things, I would definitely comply. If the home health personnel come out and determine you are not in need of services, they will not provide the services. However, it sounds like you need something, and it's wonderful that your doctor is being so responsive!

A myasthenic can have acceptable levels but may require some oxygen because the patient appears to be making an effort to take in air in different degrees, either by shortness of breath, or shallow breathing. Maybe your doctor is worried about your oxygen levels during physical therapy, or your neck drop. I'm certain when you ask, he'll tell you why he chose this route, and please let us know.

I don't know if this is what you read about oxygen, but I'll share many neuros' thoughts on this. MGers who are experiencing remarkable trouble with breathing shouldn't be at home on oxygen, lest the lungs shut down--they need to be in the hospital. I am not aware, at this time, of any myasthenic in my region who has oxygen at home, specific only to myasthenia.
