advice on word finding problems after a concussion
I had a mild concussion about a year ago but a few weeks after pcs symptoms crept up on me they were mild short temper and a bit of short term memory loss only with certain things but one thing I find now is I'll text someone and be like did I word that properly? Does it make sense the way I worded that for example I texted a friend and was giving her a hard time I told her if she decides to take up crossfit that's grounds for divorce!! Then afterwards I was like did I word that in proper grammatical fashion and was kinda bothered about that but I don't get that all the time it only happens once in a while plus my day to day is stressed to the max I didn't know if that plus over thinking would be the cause. If someone has similar issues or any advice to offer it would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

I can relate my grammar has got better I believe from reading.I am going to need to go to a cognitive therapy Institute once some things get situated. I also find problems with spelling in general and I either take it slow until I figure out how to spell it myself and if not after 3 tries I will google the spelling. (Not to look back because I am not into "me before" but I was writing paper's in my Master's program to now junior high grammar and elementary math!:eek:

Stress in general could be causing it, if we are distracted we become less mindful of day to day stuff. Plus texting is different from speaking, so if we are in a hurry word choice errors are pretty easy to make. I think what you are describing is fairly common, whether the person is a TBI survivor or not. The real question would seem to be if word finding difficulty is interfering with your day to day functioning. If “no”, either don’t worry about it, or try some things to alleviate the stress you talked about. I’ve found meditation and yoga to be helpful stress relievers. If this problem is impacting you day to day functioning, you may wish to consider seeing a speech therapist, they can deal with many aspects of communication deficits, not just verbal speech. |

Also One of the main reasons I thought my symptoms were for the most part due to stress was because a friend of mine who is a professional muay thai fighter had been ko'ed twice in a row after the 2nd Ko he had pcs he had dizzy spells so bad he couldn't stand up let alone train but he kept training and in the mean time he got kicked in the head in sparring so hard it knocked teeth out shortly after that he went to Thailand to fight he's like ahh I just don't think about it. My pcs was mild in comparasson to his which led me to believe that over thinking as well as stress made my pcs symptoms linger longer then they should have because I found if I just chilled out I was fine no memory problems or anything and memory problems were really the only symptom of signifigance that I had

I’m not a doctor or psychologist but with your history of dyslexia it may just be resurfacing when you feel stressed. Slow meditative breathing may help calm this. Otherwise it sounds as if you have recovered pretty well. Best to you. |

I have problems with verbal word finding. I find that if I can relax, close my eyes and take a breath the word usually comes back now. If I still can't find the word, I just try to find another way to get my thought across.

That's pretty much the exact same problem I had I found if I just chilled out what I was trying to say just came to me with memory loss I was frustrated so I one morning I woke up and was just like iam not going to forget anything today and I didn't I just tried my best to keep thinking like that everyday but I also found by drinking lots of water and cleaning up my diet that seemed to help with my memory loss
