My Sister needs a diagnosis
My sister is sixteen had for the past four years has had issues with her legs. The child has unusually large calves to begin with, but if she stands for two hours or walks for an hour they swell and become painful.
Doctors have given her several different Dx including: they swell b/c you are on your period they swell b/c of too much salt in the diet they swell b/c you are overweight Recently she went to the doctor again because the swelling is becoming more frequent and more painful. He gave her a list of specialists to see including: nephrologist cardiologist neurologist She was the neprhologist and they ran their tests and her kidney fxn is normal. Before having an opportunity to see the other two specialists she ended up in the emergency room. She was taken to the emergency room because of an asthma attack, and her legs being so painful and uncomfortable that she could barely walk. On this particular instance she also had pain all over her body. While in the ER they did an EKG and it was normal. The ER doctor gave a new Dx that the entire family found odd, "her legs are not swollen, they are inflamed. This is b/c of her shaving." It has been 5 days. The pain in her legs is constant and has not decreased. She can walk but only for brief times, and her knee and ankle joints hurt terribly. This is really starting to take a toll on her emotionally b/c she loves to dance and walk around the neighborhood and currently can doing none of that. If you have any information that could help please let me know. |
Just wanted to welcome you to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.
I'm sorry I can't offer any suggestions or advice really about your sister's condition. I do hope you find some answers for you and that it is something that can be treated easily. |
