panic attack from running?

Hi!

I started running a bit, increasing my working out, and had a major panic attack at night. I have not had one for maybe a year but previously they were from stress. Could that be from the running? It happened the fourth night after running for the first time in years.

I do notice that I'm having increased spine pain and the spasms are worse but it feels so good for my heart to run. I am going on over 3 years now and most of my symptoms left are from my neck/spine.

Thank you!

I can only speculate, but since the panic attack occurred four nights after the run, I would tend to look for other causes. Running will release endorphins, which generally are thought to relieve stress rather than cause it, but in any case they should have returned to normal levels after the four days.

The only other potential cause that comes to mind would be if the neck/spine pain worsening is causing mental as well as physical stress. If you are still seeing a therapist or MD for the neck/spine pain it’s worth bringing it up with them.
