what are your favorite movies at this moment?:)

We haven't been to the movies for a very long time...now that we are middle-aged, it seems like all of the movies are for the young crowd. I don't enjoy the noise of the super hero movies. We like smart comedies and great dramas, which are sorely lacking nowadays:(

Right now, I am thoroughly enjoying Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.

Plans for the summer movies: The Lone Ranger, Despicable Me 2, Wolverine and Monsters University.

Two movies, that I want to see, when they are released on Netflix are The Internship and The Purge...ooohhh and of course 300:The Rise of an Empire

I watched a movie I had never heard of before, pay for view, put out by disney called "John Carter." Really good si-fi with a twist or two. I loved star trek, star wars, and other movies like that. Felt this one is worth a re-watch. I also loved Avatar, and would watch that again and again. ginnie

Most movies made today are for the younger crowd.

That said, the kinds of movies you like are still being made, but often (with notable exceptions) bypass theaters for direct-to-video distribution.

I waited (literally) 50 years for the release of A Princess of Mars (1912), the book on which John Carter was (loosely) based (I think they waved the book over the film can :rolleyes:), and the first in a beloved 10/11 book series by the author/creator of Tarzan. Unfortunately, the reception by critics, moviegoers, and disappointed fans (:o) was mixed enough that a planned sequel is in doubt. At one point, Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man 1 & 2, and others) was tapped to direct, and his intention was to film a trilogy true to the first 3 books of the series.

If you liked the movie, I can highly recommend the books, which I've read multiple times. :o

I can't go to the movies or watch TV now. I loved going to the movies and watching them at home my husband installed a projector in the ceiling, surround sound speakers and a 92" screen for me.

Sadly I can't enjoy it!

But, I loved comedies...arsenic and old lace, 50 first dates (thank goodness my head injury was not as bad as hers), and movies I am unable to predict the outcome!

i am a movie buff and avid reader. i love all genres. i love blockbusters and b movie. indie movies and art house flicks. since i got hurt i have been watching a lot more flicks.
one i just watched yesterday that i think most here would enjoy because i assume most, like me are on meds is a movie called 'side effects'.



---Emily Taylor, despite being reunited with her husband from prison, becomes severely depressed with emotional episodes and suicide attempts. Her psychiatrist, Jonathan Banks, after conferring with her previous doctor, eventually prescribes an experimental new medication called Ablixa. The plot thickens when the side effects of the drug lead to Emily killing her husband in a "sleepwalking" state. With Emily plea-bargained into mental hospital confinement and Dr. Banks' practice crumbling around him, the case seems closed. However, Dr. Banks cannot accept full responsibility and investigates to clear his name. What follows is a dark quest that threatens to tear what's left of his life apart even as he discovers the diabolical truth of this tragedy---

^^^it is so good and it is about so much more than that. it is fantastic. for the ladies, yes channing tatum is in it but not for long and he is in a suit most of the time. no magic mike this time.

Wow, Scuffler, you will watch anything. (That's not a judgment—just an observation :D).

We just saw The Company You Keep. I generally like Redford, but at 77 he's getting a bit long in the tooth (not to mention 'craggy') to portray the father of a toddler and be doing action sequences. Other than that, most folks under 50(ish) should probably watch the "extras" to get the context of the Weather Underground.

I'll probably skip Side Effects despite the mostly positive reception, more because I watch movies to distract/escape from all this rather than remind/live through it again. YMMV.

We liked a lot of the rest of your list. Pain & Gain might be a bit much (graphic violence) for many here—a bit too Tarantino-esque.
