added med

Hi my neuro doc just added tegretol to the neurotin I was taking since the flare ups were still happening. (About a decade ago I originally started on tegretol but doc switched to neurontin) Anyway I just wanted to ask anyone who might know, does the feeling of being really drunk go away? I've been on the tegretol/neurontin about a week now. I didnt feel too drunk with the neurontin just kind of duhhh but now really woozy and sleepy. I've missed a few days of work which I cant afford. I'm on 400 mg of Tegretol and 900 mg of neurontin. Thanks

It really is an individual thing. I have been on tegretrol for 3 months and haven't any issues other than it makes me sleep well. Others slowly get over they side effects. If it isn't slowly improving, call you doctor to see if you should try something else.

thank you for your reply. I didn't have any problems with the neurontin, (except for weight gain :() but the added tegretol just really did something, the doc said I can decrease the tegretol and then go higher up again in a week but I just see that as more pain again and delaying the inevitable loopy feeling. It had helped with the pain but this zonked feeling is too much!

Around a bit.

I've been around a bit with trigeminal neuralgia. I have not heard of anyone taking both tegretol and neurontin. I'm thinking that you are causing the drunk feeling by using both. By using both how can you tell which one may
be causing side effects?
With Neurontin you are able to go quite high in dosage. I am allergic to Tegretol so I am on neurontin. I take 1200 mg. Three times a day. I've
been dealing with T.N. for the last 12yrs. and all its ups and downs and you can see how every ones story is different. Get more than one opinion
One thing that I have realized along the way is that in many cases, the Doc. doesn't know much more than you do about treating T.N.
Sometime the road will get rocky and I'm sorry about that.

I think you are right about what you say about the doc, doodle bug, abouth them not knowing much more about TN than we do. It's really hard explaining it to people so I just have them look it up at wiki most the time. I think I'm allergic to Tegretol too, since I've had that added I have been so woozy I've missed a lot of work. The doc told me to cut back half and then add it again next week, but I think I may be allergic to it like you are. I have been throwing up, I have a sore throat, a rash and some other stuff that popped up since taking it. I'm going to call him again and let him know I plan on getting off the tegretol-it works pretty well but I guess it's not for some of us
