Is there any way to beat the exhaustion?

I cannot even function! :( Cannot focus. Even trying accomplish basic household duties is wearing me out. I just want to go back to bed and sleep or just lay there staring with no thoughts. Even something as simple as reading seems like a major effort and too much. I cannot stand feeling like this. :( Feeling so down and just plain useless to the world.

Is there anything that helps? Have drank almost a whole pot of coffee in hopes I could maybe get to a point of functioning, but nothing.

If you find one, share.

I'm sitting here, barely able to focus on reading on my computer/ipad/kindle. I slept last night. I know I did, but I sure don't feel like it. I want to go take a shower, but just the thought of having to assemble a pile of towels and then turn the water on and actually get into the shower to wash my hair is making me feel exhausted.

I started an exercise program at the place where I did PT earlier this year. (it's $30/month. Much cheaper than the PT was). But, after doing the initial visit last week, I can't really imagine that I'm going to be able to use it much.

I am seriously frustrated with the fatigue and exhaustion...and every time I've said anything to my neuro or my regular doctor, they just change the subject. Which makes me think that there's nothing to be done about it.

Yep, that's where I am at.

I have 3 little ones to care for and am hardly able to do that today. Told DH to bring home pizza cause it's that or they make PB and J. I'd cry... but it'd take too much effort.

Aw Junie, I'm so sorry about your evil fatigue.:( It is the most
unforgiving part of MS. There isn't a lot you can do for it, if you
are going through a flare. The worst fatigue is when you are
going through a demilynation period=flare.

There are meds out there that may help some. I never took
any or drank coffee, because they caused me to be nervous
and have heart palpitations. Some people do like them
and use them with success, so ask your Doc if those meds
are right for you.

Having little ones makes it all much tougher and I feel for you.
I wish I could run over there and take care of those kiddles
while you napped and took proper care of yourself.

I hope you feel better soon.

I've been through this too; in fact, I'm having a problem with sleepiness the past week...
it's almost as if I have narcolepsy-fall asleep as if I was in a coma...once I even fell asleep during dinner and woke up with my hand in my plate:rolleyes:

I've never taken pro vigil, which is usually used by MSers with severe fatigue issues. My neuro never even considered prescribing it. Don't know why...

So if this keeps up, you might ask your doc to prescribe something for the fatigue...

Keep us up to date...:hug::hug:

Yah these days I am betetr than others, but I am getting kind of irritated at the fatigue part of MS. Most mornings now I literally have to roll off the bed and sit there for a moment, trying to get my juices flowing and trying to think of what I have to do first. Then I think of it and I don't feel as if I want to do it. Even going out on the bike now I have second thoughts that I'll feel like it then I don't, like it will be too much work and won't be all that fun.
I am terrible in the morning and usually by 10 A.M I am stumbling around trying to concentrate on where everything is and almost tripping over crap while my head tries to catch up....This morning was pretty bad. I almost fell, but luckily a Speaker stand was there and I was able to catch myself.

Even right now I am in McDonalds and yawning:cool:

I also think I slept pretty well last night and I could still take a napp right now.

So I am pretty sure this is due to MS....not sure, but it may be.

I dunno what to tell ya, but I eat a lot of greens right from the wrappers like celery, baby carrotts and cucumbers...I feel it helps everything, including the exhaustion.

Provigil worked for me and I would not have gotten through the last few years I worked without it!

My neuro started with Ritlan, did nothing. Tried Amantadine (sp) worked a little but we kept upping the dose and it wasn't working anymore. She tried to put me on Provigil, my insurance company won't cover it! It is "off label" use to treat MS fatigue with Provigil! I tried contacting the drug company for financial assistance and they say, "We don't offer financial assistance for Provigil" even though their website says they do.

So there are things to try, some work for some and not others. Hope you find help. I have two little ones and am right there with you in the same battle.

Hello,
I u deer stand what you are saying! I cannot stand the fatigue! My neurologist really listens to me and works with me! We tried Amantadine for fatigue but all it did was give me awful headaches. Noe I am on 20mg of Ritalin and I can function. It has been a big help! Hang in there and talk to your docs about options!!
I hope it gets better!

I take Adderall XR 10 mg. The generic form is fairly cheap and keeps me fairly alert. I work full time and try to stay reasonably active at age 55. I cannot function without it. Even with it I am very slow for the first few hours after I wake up.
