5 hr car ride...my world is SPINNING. help!

Took breaks, rode in the back, slept 1/2 way, to a very quiet, peaceful destination trying to have a break.

Now I'm having bouts of vertigo. I've had vestibular therapy for four months, over 20 visits. My vertigo and dizziness were nearly gone.

Does this mean I'm starting over? I do have moderate vestibular damage and trouble tracking, pt migraines.

As soon as it starts I start looking for my focal point and try not to panic. Vertigo scares me, dizzy I can handle.

Any thought? Jace

Jace,

When you slept, were you in a supported upright position with your neck and head straight ?

Is your neck stiff or sore at all ?

Have you tried icing your upper neck?

Mark,

Thanks for the reply. I was on my left side, pillow supporting my neck.

I don't have any pain. Fatigued from the ride (my head).

Do some vestibular exercises

Hi there

When I had issues with the elevator rides -- I would do some of the vestibular therapy exercises to help with the dizzies I got from the elevator, and it helped me feel better.

It can't hurt you to give it a try.

Car rides can be aggravating.

Hang in there!

I can relate

I had bouts of vertigo too. It did go away. I hope yours does too. I don't have the answer as to what's causing it, but I believe my vertigo was due to a problem with the commmunication between my eyes and my brain. It could also be a neck issue, especially as I don't think the position you were in sounds like a good idea for your neck.

On your trip home; i would wear a blindfold or sleepmask and sit in the front passanger seat, leaning back, but with a towel roll under your neck for support. If it is a problem with your eyes, the sleepmask will bring sweet relief; if it's a neck issue, the towel roll will help keep your neck well supported. Good luck! Rest up!l

Temporary relief

I would take medication bought over the counter for motion sickness and do your exercises if you can. That's what I did. This is also if you are not on any meds if so ask pharmacist.

Meds

My doc gave me a script for Ativan for anxiety provoking circumstances. I only take it when I will really really need it, not loosely. I can't be confined to small spaces especially for any period of time..
