Skin rash
Just wondering if any others have had rashes due to RSD. I started with a rash on my hand on the arm I had shoulder surgery in that resulted in crps. I had excessive sweating on my hand and then the rash. After a couple nerve blocks the rash has gone away. I had a few dots a month or so ago but nothing more.
Last weekend though I noticed a large rash on the inside of my arm, basically the opposite side of my elbow. It itched and I thought maybe it was poison oak, athough I have had no possibility of exposure. My forearm still has a lot of the odd overgrowth of dark hair. The dark hair first started on my shoulder but how now disappeared and most of it is on my forearm close to my elbow. The rash moved around the inside of my forearm at first looking like it was spreading but as it moved small amounts the area where it first started disappeared. After about 5 days it was gone. It never turned into what my usual poison oak looks like-and I used to get it horribly bad-so I know now that's not what it was otherwise I would still be battling with it. It was so odd to come on so quickly, be pretty isolated, and then go. Had anyone else experienced anything like this? Also being that it was on my arm where my RSD first started made me a bit suspicious. I can always add a pic but it pretty much was a standard red rash, little red bumps. The rash I had on my hand was a lot the same, but I do remember at times it looked like tapioca almost-very odd-I thought maybe it was due to the excessive sweating. Thank you. :) |
Cozyc,
I have a persistent rash on both arms, my left leg, as well as other spots here and there like on my right leg, left foot, belly, and left breast. For the most part though it has been on my arms and left thigh and knee. I have had the rash for a couple months; it is very slow in healing. It looks more like bug bites or leisions. There was an article in Practical Pain Management written by Dr Schwartzman, dated April 1 2013, and titled CRPS:Systemic Complications that describes my rash to a tee. The article notes the rash as "a 1- to 3-mm punched-out circular lesion.... The punched-out lesion is the second most common skin manifestation. It is pruritic and often thought to be an insect bite. Within a week the center of the lesion excavates and its outer margin becomes slightly elevated. The lesion may scar and characteristically heals with an atrophic thin center and erythematous margins." So basically I have a rash composed of divits. It certainly is the most strange rash I have ever had. A rash can be caused by many things, but with all the complications RSD/CRPS has I wouldn't doubt your rash is connected. If it becomes too itchy, you could try an oatmeal or backing soda bath. Epsom salts was recommended to me by mrsD. I can't get in or out of he tub so I use a pan in the shower and bath my feet and legs in it. Hope you will be feeling better soon. Also hoping for pain free days ahead for you. |
I have had a rash for quite a while now. It covers majority of both of my arms. I have not found anything to help it. I have chalked it up to RSD since everything else has been ruled out.
