Too Hot On Rebif
I've been on Rebif since November of 2012.
For over a year now, I've been waking in the night, after just a few hours of sleep, feeling very hot. I have to get up, and stay up, in order to cool down. I am hypothyroid, and my DO re-tests my TSH, Free T3 & Free T4 on a regular basis. I'm on the Vivelle Dot (estrogen) and he also tests those levels. I'm not over-weight. The exact opposite. I am 5.2 & weigh 78#s. Has anyone else experienced feeling too hot on Rebif? Chelle I drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. |
I've never been on Rebif, but was on Avonex, another interferon
and yes I did get hot after the shot. I thought it was the flu effects, that the interferon's cause. Feel better soon. |
I used to get a temperature every night that I had a Beta shot - and that is also an interferon - same mechanism as Rebif. It used to make my skin so sensitive and sore that it felt like I had really bad sunburn and someone had rubbed me down with sand or finely crushed glass.
Do you only get this on the nights that you have had your shot? Or other nights as well? |
Yes, I am on Rebif and if I don't take an advil at the time I do my shot each night, I will wake up a few hours later either drenched in sweat and burning up, or shaking with chills that can't be fixed with 3 extra blankets on the bed. If I remeber to take the advil, I have no problems and never notice any hot or cold symptoms, but if I don't, I get one or the other every time. FWIW, I only take a single advil, not the full dose of 2 and it seems to work for me.

I'm hot even on the nights & days that I don't inject. So, I think it is the Rebif. :( Thanks. Chelle |

I have the temperature change even on the nights I don't inject. If I take a nap in the daytime, or should I say when, because I need one every day, I wake up hot. I took my temp.-not a fever. Chelle |

I'm sorry the Rebif is making you feel so miserable, too. :( Chelle |
Chelle - You've only been taking Rebif for about 7 or 8 months and the heat issues have been going on for over a year so I don't think it's the Rebif that's causing it.
I can't answer your question from personal experience as I have never taken Rebif, don't have hypothyroidism, and am not on the V Dot patch. but I have a friend that was on V dot and she experienced the same symptom. She finally stopped using the patch and the symptom went away. The hot flashes came back but she said it was far better than what she was dealing with while she was on the patch. (She had other symptoms as well). I have also heard from a few other women that they know people who experienced temperature regulation issues, for lack of a better term, while on the patch. It may not be what's causing your issue but worth a check. How long have you been on the V Dot? Also, it's my understanding that the V Dot doesn't completely get rid of hot flashes, but does help minimize them. |

I don't seem to 'remember' anything accurately anymore. I've been on the Vivelle Dot since July of 2006. The heat that I feel isn't like a hot flash. I'm just hot. It doesn't come and go, like a hot flash from hormones. Forgot to mention-I did my Rebif injection at 9:00 last night-woke much hotter at 3:00 a.m. |

I 'thought' he was mistaken, when I asked him the date I started. ;) |
