Lumbar Radiculapathy question

I have had right leg pain and weakness for 8 months now from a right para central protrusion at l5/s1 level. I am scheduled for micro discectomy on Friday, as of the last 2 weeks the pain and weakness has moved also to my left leg and foot Could this be caused by the same disc ? I am worried...

I'm not positive, but it could be. WHY didn't the doc do a discogram? He should have to be SURE which disc is the culprit! I don't think I'd let him until he did do one.

Best of luck~ Hugs, Lee ;)

Assuming that you have had the benefit of an MRI and sound clinical examination, yes your symptoms can change just as the dynamics of your condition can change. I am not sure that a discogram is indicated if your doc feels that your left-sided symptoms are also originating at the same neurological level. Discograms are not without significant risks. If that is the case, progressing with the original surgery might make sense otherwise if clinically your new left-sided findings seem to be coming from a different neurological level, I can't imagine your surgeon proceeding with surgery without new MRI in light of your change of symptoms? Good luck!

Thank you for the replies, I will definitely follow up with this with my doctor.
