I need help

what sucks about MS? everything about it - I woke up this morning after 5 hours of sleep, I felt like sludge was moving through me, like I was extremely dizzy and slow. I felt so bad that I wanted to go to the ER but it seems like I can't because the last four times I've went, it sucked going - they helped me the first 2 times but the last 2 times sucked

I had to fire my neuro and my PCP doesn't know much about MS to help me - I do go to a MS Center in Aug 19th but I feel that is too long of a wait. what can I do? just go to a different ER? im simply tired of not getting the help I need

Call the MS center where you have a scheduled appt and ask to be put on a cancellation list-that way if there is an opening you might be moved up. Let them know you are having difficulties...:hug:

I call them about everyday to see if there is an appt moved up - I always am told no and that If i need immediate care to go to the ER

Sadly if this is just MS stuff there are limited things they can do to help us.

If you weren't happy with your PCPs knowledge about MS I doubt a ED doc will suit you and if they feel you are a frequent flier looking for pain medications they will be concerned about continuing to give you narcotics.

If this is the reason you are going to the ED I would suggest you consult a pain management specialist because your MS specialist is also likely to be hesitant, and for good reason, to attempt to manage chronic pain.

I am not one of those junkies - that's why I'm hesitant going to a pain specialist because I've heard bad things about thing.

I'm going to my PCP today again and see if he can do anything about the new symptoms. I've been throwing up, diareaha a lot lately along with chest and body hurting

It isn't about being "one of those junkies". Everyone who uses opiates for any length of time becomes addicted to them and there are good pain specialists and bad just like anything else.

If you have chronic pain and aren't able to find relief in antidepressant medication, therapy, things like biofeedback, PT, exercise etc. than you would likely benefit from having someone assist you to manage your pain with medication.

Good luck at the PCP. I'm sure they can help you with the GI stuff anyway.

You have mentioned several times GI issues as well as bad chest pains. Have you seen a GI dr? It may be worth your while to go see one and get scoped. Many of us MSers have GI issues in addition to our normal symptoms. I have esophageal spasms that can cause an awful pain in your chest, similar to a heart attack. I have nitroglycerin to take for when they get severe. Also, reflux can cause the pain, nausea, and diarrhea that you are talking about, as can gallbladder diseases, ulcers, gastritis, etc. Costochondritis, which I get often, can be very painful as well.

Going to a pain specialist can be very beneficial. Their goal is to treat you with out many medications. Their methods have proven successful for so many patients. I know of patients that have gone from being on a bunch of pain meds down to an injection a month or even natural supplements.

Remember, not all pains are related to MS. Talk to your PCP about seeing a GI dr and getting checked out.
