Krill oil information
http://www.omegavia.com/krill-oil-vs-fish-oil/
The above link is all about krill oil vs fish oil but more interesting is what KIND of krill oil is best. The article says only krill oil made using NKO process is the best. It also says only krill from antartica is best. If you are looking for facts on Krill oil, fish oil , and whats best, this is a great read...although how do you ever know if what you are reading is correct or crap, lol. |
Gosh that link is confusing. I went to the very bottom on the comments section...and while this guy says krill oil is better, he says you have to take too many pills to get what you need and its better to use fish oil.
what? very confusing in the comments where people are asking him stuff. |
I take 1000 krill and 5000 fish oil. I know they say too much fish oil can cause prostate cancer but If I have to live with these bran injury symptoms the rest of my life...i'd rather roll the dice and see if large doses of fish oil can cure some symptoms like I've read.

Dr. Michael Eades MD has several mentions on his blog about Krill oil. I tend to gravitate towards his opinions.
Example: http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/i...why-krill-oil/ There are other links if you Google him "Dr. Eades krill" One does not need to take "many" caps ... I take one or two depending on my pain levels. Never any fish breath either. Costco has it at reasonable prices. So does Amazon. And we just discovered that SAM's is now carrying it. I got $5 off 2 wks ago at SAMs Club. |
MrsD what makes you think this guy is not of sound advice? His credentials seems pretty good and his theory seemed sound.
I spent more time reading, there is a lot of info there, and even in the comments/questions & answers he is not just selling or pushing his specific product but many products, while he does endorse a specific he does not say its the only one and offers many others up. He also is not pushy on krill vs fish but offers his opinion on why SOMETIMES fish oil is better depending on the need/purpose for it. |
I offer both options if you will notice for new members here.
We used fish oil for a decade... and just switched 2 yrs ago to the Krill. When people take high doses of fish oil, not all is absorbed. Some can get diarrhea as a result of the oil moving thru the bowel. It is a personal choice. As far as I am concerned either is fine. But do take SOMETHING... don't ignore the value that these supplements provide. ;) |
Yes, I agree, I'm still just trying to figure out what to take.
Someone specifically asked him about New Chapter (which is what I am currently taking) and his answer was, yes it's a good product but not enough in the serving size suggested so you would need to take 4 to 5 pills a day to get a good dose which would make it VERY EXPENSIVE. But then, if you up your amount of fish oil, taking into account that your body does not absorb it as well as krill, is it more beneficial to just switch to krill? He is a little confusing on this issue or maybe *I* am simply not understanding his point of view since he advocates both fish and krill depending on the scenario you give him. Geeze I get stuck on something and can't move on. I don't wanna waste money on the wrong product. |
It does get complicated, doesn't it?
There are also studies that seem to indicate krill oil is not more bio-available than fish oil: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...m&ordinalpos=2 Other studies seem to indicate krill oil does contain contaminations: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...69749105003805 This debate seems to have been raging for a good while. I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you what reasoning I followed in the end: I went for ultra refined fish oil purely on the basis that krill oil (phospholipid oil) might be more difficult to purify (in other words: get rid of PCB, mercure, etc) than ethyl ester fish oil. I take high doses, so purity/lack of contaminants is important to me. I also chose a fish oil that is independently checked by IFOS and gets a 5 star rating. I do not have any strange side effects from the high dose, but that might also be because I really "cleaned up" my diet. The "fish breath" should not be an issue with high quality oil either. I am currently taking 10 gram (3 teaspoons of my product) of DHA/EPA per day, because, again, that's what I'm convinced I currently need, based on never having eaten fish (allergic...), having neurological complaints (PN) and losing a lot of weight in a short period of time. When you take high doses, it is almost impossible to take capsules, hence why I take liquid oil. But again, this is not a recommendation, and MrsD. is right in that the most important is that you do supplement with omega3. |
I am thinking I will stick with fish oil, salmon, but make sure I get at least 600mg of DHA at a min per day.
thanks everyone for your opinions and sharing. |
