Burning mouth syndrome and dental appliance
 

Has anyone experienced burning mouth syndrome symptoms that might be related to wearing a dental appliance for sleep apnea? Symptoms include sensation of tip and sides of tongue being scolded, dry mouth sensation and slight swelling of lip and inside cheeks. I am wondering if this is caused by wearing a dental appliance or something else altogether.

You could be having an allergic or sensitive reaction to the material that the appliance is made from. If that is the case, then you should avoid wearing it because the more you expose yourself to it, the more progressive your reaction will become and it could affect your throat and airway.

You could call the manufacturer of the appliance and have them send you an MSDS sheet on the material that is used to fabricate it. Then consult an allergist about being tested for those materials.
