Mastitis - how to treat it?

Has anyone had mastitis that healed without medical treatment? I had it a couple of times while I was breastfeeding my babies decades ago but I think I have it again after a slight skin tear to my breast that happened over a week ago while trying to get into my swimsuit at a hotel. :o

My left breast is very tender, and I am way past menopause, and this feels exactly like mastitis that I had years ago. I am hoping to avoid a trip to the pcp and yet another round of antibiotics. I used a hot wet towel tonight and it helped it slightly. It is very sore and looks a bit bruised at the most tender spot.

Opinions?

I think keep using the warm/moist compresses it should help, and maybe some antibiotic ointment on the torn skin.
Then just keep an eye on it or if it gets worse of course see a doc.

Hi JoMar,

Thanks for your response. :)

I went to the convenient care today and got levaquin because it hasn't stopped hurting and I don't want it to become a big abscessed blob. It has been bad for a week or so and not getting better and I work almost every day for the next week. The doctor there said that levaquin is the best for this. I'm also overdue for my mammogram so I'll schedule that for my day off on Tuesday if I can get in.

I took the 7th antibiotic pill today. I am still bruised and feel a mass on the breast. I will have my mammogram soon as a precaution.
