SFN: Can i have a sluggish toe with this diagnosis?
One of my big toes doesn't want to raise very quickly after flexing. Can I have this symptom and still have SFN?
|
Well, yes--
--but that particular symptoms is more likely due to a problem with one or more motor fibers collected in larger, myelinated nerves, either at the level of the toe or farther up, even possibly to the level of the spine.
What I'm getting at is that small fiber nerve problems don't produce motor symptoms, as the small fibers underlie certain sensory (pain, temperature) and autonomic processes. No one is exempt from having problems with BOTH small, unmyelinated and larger, myelinated fibers, though, and mixed types of neuropathy are quite common. |
