Being stolen from...

Well, how to start. Someone has been stealing my pain medications!! And I don't know what to do about it. I am scared because I am going to run out now and I don't know how I am going to get more. I am not sure how this happened I am always so careful about keeping them close. And now the stress of having them stolen is making me flare up so my pain is even worse! Arggggggggggggggg! and AHHHHHHHH!! I am freaking out if you can't tell.

Oh dear Angelina, I am so sorry this is happening. This is something I worry about all the time and so I keep my meds locked up in a safe. Do you have any idea of who or where this thievery may have occurred?

Was just wondering the other day how you were getting along since it has been awhile since I have seen any posts from you... again sorry you are going through such a difficult time.

Praying you will get by with what you have until your next appt.
Tessa

Oh no  I'm not surprised you're freaking out - that must be so worrying. It is important that you try to find out who it is though, those meds could be very dangerous to someone else.

I always worry about mine being taken by one of my family by accident or curiosity - I'm pretty careful, but I know that if someone really wanted to, they could probably get to them. I probably need to think my med security through again and try to keep them more secure.

Hope you can get some peace and better times soon,

Bram.

Hi Angelina

I am sorry that happened to you. I have a solution if you are in a high traffic household. Get a small safe and keep it locked up. Never will happen again. You can actually cement them into your closet. This will never happen again because you have the key. I am not sure what you can tell your doctor other than the truth. If you file a police report, they are more apt to re- fill your script. ginnie

Mine were stolen one time by my nephew, who is 29. Didn't want to give the wrong idea lol. I was left with 29 pills for the entire month. It wasthe worst mont side I've had rsd. I could have called and I filed a police repor but it's hard to actually get someone to believe you even through my record is spotless is pain mgmt. so I have learned to keep all my pilla under lock and key except my allergy meds. I'm sorry someone did this to you. I remember how that month was for me. It was terrible!! I hope you are able to cope as best you can. As a footnote, that nephew is now in jail for theft and credit card fraud from his job. So, while there wasn't a lot we could. The pils, while worth tons on the "street", are only worth what we paid for them which was about 8 or 9 dollars. He did get justice for his other crimes. Hope it gets better!! :)

Sorry to hear you are having this problem, my suggestion is before being suspicious inside your house to look at the pharmacy, More than one time Iran out of pain meds, so when i noriced it was always too soon I started counting my pills and I noticed the pharmacy was shorting me, when I noticed that I decided to count them in front of the store manager and pharmacist, the shortage was from the pharmacy, I dont kno how they handled the situation but I know they did as I havent been shorted again since. only after that would i Start looking inside my home. also I tell very few people aout what drugs I take and I destroy the labels before discarding the bottle.I mnow this means living with pain for a couple of days but it is where I would start. I hope this is where the issue is, best of luck to you

Well, I have been on a roller coaster! Pain up and down. It has been crazy. I don't know what is going on. It must be the stress.

I think this whole disease should have 'roller coaster' in the name! Was sure hoping that your absence was because things were settling in your life. Very sorry to hear that it is not. Wishn' I could offer some tips but, like you, I am also on a roller coaster as I face each day.

Stay strong,
Tessa

I'm really sorry to hear that happened to you. This has definetly made me rethink where I've been keeping my meds. I just had them up in my cabinet and it never crossed my mind that people would ever take them.... I'm planning on taking out small amounts to keep out and locking the rest up. Its sad to think people would steal from somebody who really needs them....

Ugh! that's SO awful when it happens!! I had it happen once when we were on a family vacation. I had very carefully counted out the right amount plus a few extras, and I kept a daily tally of the current count. I counted them at least once a day, and usually more. Then in the middle of the trip, we went to a family member's house for a party they were throwing for a friend, and that night, I got out my dose, and the pill bottle seemed emptier than it was that afternoon ... I counted them, and instead of the 35 that were in the pill bottle, there were 25. Someone stole 10 oxycontins from me at a family/close friend party! And these pills were in my purse, zipped up, in a bedroom hidden away in a corner.

I now keep my pills right on my body in situations like that, because it was horrible being on vacation and needing more than usual but having much less than usual. If I don't have my purse on me, I will even put the pills in a ziplock and put them in my pocket. I had to deal with minor withdrawal and higher pain for the remainder of the trip, and it affected every day of the vacation.

You definitely need to keep your meds in a safer place - sad but true - both on vacation and at home. I'm sorry you had to find this out the hard way :( I know that if my meds get stolen, my dr won't give me another prescription unless I file a police report, so I am SUPER careful with my meds.

I tried to find a safe place to keep meds at home, and I think I found a good one (let me know if you guys see a problem with it!) Definitely don't keep it in your sock drawer under the socks - that's a common place. I tried to think of something that would not get stolen if someone broke into the house, and I thought that people probably wouldn't want to steal clothing, so I keep my extra pill bottle in the pocket of a jacket hanging in my closet among the rest of my clothes. I think that people who break into a house would go for the electronic stuff, not old, used clothes, so I thought that might be a good idea.
