CRPS and Thyroid issues
 

Hi everyone. I Just have a question about CRPS and thyroid problems. I have just had blood tests done and had my first visit with a new GP. My thyroid showed that it was under productive and he has hinted at thyroid disease and done more tests. He was supportive of everything I have done so far for my CRPS, but he thinks if he sorts out my thyroid issue, then my CRPS will sort its self out and Ill be back at work etc etc
Im doubtful but was wondering if I could be wrong? Ive noticed a trend with some CRPS sufferers having thyroid issues and Im sure its making things worse. I stared with it in my left hand and its now the entire arm, both legs and a little in my Right hand/arm. I also have alot of neuro problems that are being investigated such as tremors and weakness. Im currently unable to work and im finding this quite debilitating, although my first round of Ketamine has really helped. To be honest, Im feeling a bit of pressure from this. I cant see me getting better right now and Im scared of being forced back to work, like I was when I had my initial injury (burn injury). Hope this all makes sense. So I guess my question is....
Has anyone else had thyroid problems and how did it effect your CRPS?

Hi Sarah! Sorry you are having a difficult time! I have had RSD/CRPS for over 22 years now and have never had a thyroid issue. My dr has suspected thyroid problems over the years, but every single test was normal. Hopefully some others will chime in :) Sorry I can't help you. I don't understand how your CRPS will sort itself out if/when he sorts out your thyroid issue?? Does he really understand CRPS?

My thoughts exactly. Im limmited on GP's where i live and I have to start traveling once he dosnt work out. But I was impressed that he at least knew what it was. I am confident it will not be a "miricle" and sortout all of my issues, But I guess I would be foolish not to entertain the thought and check my facts a little seeing as I have noticed a trend with the two commonly going togehter. I have had my Thyroid checked in the past and its a new problem, However my body has been through a lot over the past year, So nothing suprises me these days. lol

Thyroid problems run in my family but so far mine seems okay. That said...I know first hand that when you have other health issues going on simultaneously that it can put your CRPS into overdrive. If that's what he means by "sort itself out" then he could be right. If he means it will go away...well...I WISH that were the case but it's probably just wishful thinking.

I will say that once we got my other issues dealt with...it was much easier to deal with JUST the CRPS. I was able to cope better with the pain and CRPS symptoms once I didn't have other stuff aggravating it and flaring up the pain constantly.

I guess it's just a wait and see. I will keep my fingers crossed that getting the thyroid stuff under control will make life with CRPS at least a little easier.

I end up with thyroid issues but mine ended up being thyroid cancer. My thyroid kept swelling and they would drain it, and tehy tested the fluid and it came back non cacerous but when it kept swelling and then got painful my mom told the doctor we cant keep doing this as it was puting me in flares so I would end up hospitalized so they then decided to take it out and when they did they came back to my mom and thanked her because it was cacerous and if they did take it out they wouldnt have caught it. So now iam hypothyroidism so have to take meds but its just becuase it was removed.

Oh that is horrible but so lucky at the same time. Im really glad your ok. :) I had a little panic about cancer, you know once a thought enters your mind...... But my gut tells me i will be ok. Im really hoping that I can get it sorted ith meds and start to feel better.
Ho have you found the medication?

I take synthroid for me meds for thyroid it keeps my hormons normal I take it an hour before I eat every morning.
