Burning
Does anyone else have ONLY that one symptom???
I am so confused about my PN. Supposedly my hypothyroid is the cause of my PN. When I first got on meds I had multiple symptoms, all of which went away except for the burning. Last week after I upped the dose of medication the burning went away...for about 5 days, only to return with a vengence. It seems odd to me that burning is my ONLY pn symptom. Is that odd? Is it normal??? Most folks here talk of more than one symptom. I feel like I take 1 step forward and 2 steps back, but everything revolves around burning. Benfotiamine was a miracle a year ago, controlled the burning, then wore off, same as thyroid meds. This seems strange to me and has me wondering if I am stupid to believe this is thyroid. It actually has me so confused I don't know what to think or do anymore. Anyone else have only burning? |
When my PN started I had lots of
pain. Then finally I got the thyroid medication and the healing started with tingling and some burning. Then my PN stabilized into occasional burning. For me my burning seems to Be food intolerance driven. And oddly after having that toenail removed My swollen ankle has stopped swelling which is puzzling still. But burning has always been my main symptom and sometimes up to the knees when especially bad. |
Thanks MrsD! Hope you are having a great vacation!
I guess it it confusing why the meds work then stop working, the burning was gone for 5 days, it was HEAVEN, so I thought, ok this really is thyroid, but now its back horrid bad. If it is food, I have no idea what, the burning is always at night, regardless what I eat. If I have to get on pain meds what is the best pain med for burning??? Does anything really work???? |

Most doctors with put you on something like lyrica or gabapentin, perhaps along with amitryptaline,or cymbalta. If you mean narcotics, I am on oxycodone. It kinda works..better than nothing. But doctors avoid opiates like the plague now, and even say they can CAUSE pain. |
Just seeing you list those meds scares the crap out of me.
I have been and continue to be terrified to get on pain meds. I am still fairly young and can't imagine getting on meds now and possibly never getting off them. Side effects scare me. I keep saying I am getting close to giving in, but my throat swelled just reading this list of meds. so I don't think I am close at all really. I have refused to accept it....but the fact that I am even talking about it says things are changing. so depressed. :( |
Sorry, I don't understand?
These are just options for pain management . They're not all narcotics. I haven't had any trouble stopping any of them. If you want to lessen the pain, then you have to be open to options..no? People are most afraid of narcotics, and I understand that. Amitryptaline is an old, cheap tricyclic antidepressant with few side effects. It can help with sleep, mood, and pain. I think its great! |
I am afraid of any and all medications and even some supplements. Anything we put into our body, including food, has an effect, positive or negative on our body.
There is a reason every single medication lists about a million possible side effects, and trust me, I don't care what the statistics are, there WILL be side effects. I choose not to put anything I dont have to. That does not mean I am not open to options, it means I will use medication as last resort. I do believe in medication, I am on thyroid meds. I will hold out on medication and continue with other options until...my options run out or my pain exceeds my desire to avoid them. Look at antibiotics..we need them, but there is always a price when taking them. The price can be minimal, like a stomach ache or yeast infection or the price can be high like neuropathy or even death. All I was saying is, I personally, am devastated to be at the point that I am even thinking about using them. :( |
I don't blame you for being leery, I had never had a problem taking anything, some of them didn't work, but no problem stopping them. Then I ran into Lyrica for me not only did it not help it has been hell to get off of. It was worth a try, not saying anything bad it was just my own personal bugaboo.

Just pls don't torture yourself unnecessarily. Having uncontrolled severe pain is very detrimental to health as well.
Low doses, used in moderation are not usually a problem. The only side effects from narcotics are some constipation and ...euphoria!! Lol Can be habit forming. Better than blinding pain if ya ask me Weight the risks to benefits. |
