Yes I Think I Am Depressed, and I am New

Hello All,
I am new here. I suffer from many health conditions that cause me depression. I have tried multiple medications and all seem to space me out. I just want to feel normal in every sense. I know that is not possible. I was forced to quit my teaching job due to my health. I have no insurance, or income. I am appealing my first denial for SSI. I try to avoid stress, but that is easier said then done. With all of that said, my main goal is to find a shoulder to cry on periodically. I really need a friend sometimes, especially on those long sleepless nights and difficult days. Peace to all and looking forward to getting to know you all. Hugs, :hug:Mary

That 'cloud'....

Hi Mary,

That dark 'cloud' as I call it. I've battled it for many years, but especially when chronic pain entered my life. The two feed off of each other and it's a circle of madness  You are so very right in stating how important it is to have people to open up to. The worst mistake I have made with this battle is when I would isolate myself. That makes room for the very dark thoughts to enter in.

Yes, many of the medications that are out there can really space us out.
I've had pretty good luck with Wellbutrin. I too suffer with back problems, especially spasms. When they kick in, I'm done for! I usually go to my room to lie flat. I have my laptop nearby so I can play solitaire to keep my mind focused on something other than the pain. But this is very frustrating because I can't even cook a whole meal for my family without having to go lie down for 10 minutes or so.
I'll be trying for disability soon also. Don't be discouraged that you've been declined. Most cases are declined the first time. I hope your appeal goes well.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that my heart goes out to you and that you are not alone in this.

Rae

Dear fellow sufferer

Dear Queenmary

my friend you are so not alone
it drives me nuts just to get my
mental state together
It is morning and had a crappy
nights rest
my tongue is already waiting
for my Meds to kick in
I am a slave to my Meds
if I want some relief
Just not enough to go back
to work
I am still so angry at times
I think my pain might be in my head
Oh hell no
It most certainly suffer chronic pain and some
My DEPRESSION IS A CULMINATION OF A SLEW
OF DISEASES and in my case chances are more to
come
I am an optimist
I may not sound like one
My deep dark thinking kicks in
when I think I know better
And doing my homework I found
this very very special place you can
be sure as I promise we all need each other
Wonderful people already giving their shoulder
and now I give you mine

Lord hear our prayers

Someone who cares
In Jesus I trust
Amen

Hi there, I can sure relate to what you're speaking of and also looks like you've got some helpful and supportive posters here on your side!!! I would just continue to try to take care of myself and do what's needed there, in terms of survival and health, but also I hope you will feel some relief trying other things, and although there are universals, every depressed person is unique. You can also check out Psych Central website, run also by Dr. John Grohol. There is a forum there for depression. As for your Soc Sec, I am figuring you know what you're supposed to do, in terms of psychiatric diagnosis, documentation, treatment, attorneys, etc. If not, it is easy to find out good info there, and many folks who've gone this route. I wish you all the best in your battle with depression. I know how tough it can be!

I have been taking effexor for many years for my depression. There is seratonin (don't know if i spelled that right.) in our brain that helps with depression.,Fibromyalgia and other auto immune diseases that people have are deficiant.
Effexor has really helped. You might ask your Dr. about it. Just know that there is a physical problem that promotes the depression. It not our fault. I feel so much better as far as depression goes. I wish you the best!!!

effexor

Hi Blossom, thanks, I will ask Pdoc about this. Someone else recommended to me. Been taking numerous stuff, lately citalopram, have to keep price in mind of course, but it's losing its effect, I think. Supposed to go back next month, so we will see. Though people close to me do understand it's an illness, if they don't struggle with it or other MI issues, sometimes they have a hard time understanding. You know how it is, but I just try not to let that get to me, and usually I'm successful. Have a great day, Blossom25!

I currently suffer from MDD (major depressive disorder) and there were many times in my past I wanted to give up. I have been inpatient twice at a local psych hospital in the past. I currently take cymbalta, lexapro, and suboxone. I hope you get some answers and relief and please don't give up!!!! :p
