why do i only see ludicrous beneficial effects of drugs?

Why for antideppresents and antipychotics do i see news headlines such as "antideppresents grow new braincells" "antideppresents have inflammatory effect" "Antipychotics act as neuroprotectants" This statements seem farfectched judging by all the side effects and how the drugs companies who made them rushed them out the door unaware of these apparent miraculous effects. In reality any drug that suppresses chemicals in the most complex organ in the universe (the brain) probably damages its development and function over time. Not to mention the severe "side effects" that come with these drugs. I thought scientists were supposed to be unbiased and constantly challenging norms. They should be looking for harmful effects and posting those. Oh wait that's right the entire pychiatric industry relies on decieving the public...
