concerned about pill size

Hi everyone

I am going to be starting Cellcept in a week. I got the pills today(generic) and they are HUGE! I often have to break up mestinon to swollow them. I read the pills can not be crushed or broken. How are people getting them down? I am really concerned about choking on them. I would be grateful for any ideas
Thanks

Wow. That is a problem. I may be supposed to get on cellcept too soon and that will be a problem. I wonder if immuran is smaller.

Yes, do not break the pill, as even inhaling the dust is dangerous. I have been on it for 13 years, and I have a history of HORRIBLE dysphagia. My palate does not even lift to protect my airway when I am bad. I find that taking them immediately upon wakening, one at a time if necessary and turning my head to one side to help facilitate swallowing works almost without fail. In the evening I usually take my dose at a time when I've not just finished eating or talking a lot (rested.)

Now once I was in the hospital and the hospital pharmacy sent me down 250 mg caps, and they were considerably smaller. Of course you have to take twice as many. Also, all generics are not created equally. One brand of generic is very rough and chalky and much more difficult to swallow. Accord brand generic works best for me--nice and smooth.

I think with a bit of practice, you will get the hang of it. If you feel like you are choking, don't try to be ladylike--just do what you need to get it either up or down--you can wipe up the mess later!

Good luck.

Are the non generic Cellcept as big? Just a thought to look into.

I have been taking the generic for just over a week. The pills are long and narrow with a slick coating. So far I have been doing fine swallowing them. Luckily I am only having minor side effects (mild nausea and headache):p

I wonder if those side effects will go away after a while or if you'll have to go around with a headache and nauseated. Let us know. I hope the stuff helps you.

Generics are roughly the same size. The ones from Apotex are awful, in my opinion. Hard to swallow and they didn't agree with me at all. I will never take another one from that brand again!
