Noise & Chronic pain don't mix for me!

I have been a chronic pain patient for many years due to a work injury followed by multiple surgeries followed by infection. The surgeries were more than ten years ago which left me with increased pain due to the infection from the operating room. I am on pain medication daily and I have found that outside noise really bothers me! I have bilateral brachial plexothapy, if I spelled it right! I'm just curious to know if others out there with chronic pain are bothered by noise as well? Thanks for any comments!

A good investment is "the Bose noise canceling ear buds" on the Apple site. If you don't want to spend that much use earplugs. When it comes to chronic pain, I'd spend all I have to have peace and quiet as noise is irritating to me also. Just some things I do because I agree with you and understand.

Loud noise drives me mad! We live in a cabin that is pretty open and my husband usually has the tv LOUD! I start getting very irritated and can't even think. I was never sensitive to sound until pain hijacked my body. I was thinking headphones for HIM lol!

Noises drive me crazy too when I'm hurting

It's the inside noises that drive me crazy when I'm hurting...when I feel good, which isn't often, I love to listen to the 60's, 70's and 80's music on the radio. When I'm hurting I want everything OFF....tv, radio and I don't even want the phone to ring...lol

I have SFN (recently diagnosis) and it seems to be progressing quickly and my feet are killing me today. I did watch Once Upon A Time tonight on tv for an hour but immediately turned it off when it was over.

I'm sitting here with a Chillow on my swollen foot and reading threads.

Take care everyone :)

Neighbors loud backyard pool parties with my chronic pain

I have been a chronic pain patient for many years due to a work injury followed by multiple surgeries followed by a staph infection from the OR at UCLA. The surgeries were more than fifteen years ago which left me with increased chronic nerve pain. I am on pain medication daily and I have found that outside noise really bothers me! I have bilateral brachial plexothapy! I am living proof bullying by neighbors can happen to a senior! I love peace and quiet but it is not happening with the bad neighbors I have. I'm just curious to know if others out there with chronic pain bothered by noise as well? Thanks for any comments!

I find that noise can be both a soothing or irritating factor. My personal belief is that I am expending so much energy trying to quiet the voices screaming in my arm that I don't have the energy to deal with any external noise. Same goes for my attention span, patience and capacity to endure stupid.
I think its dead wrong that your neighbors are bullying you. I hope they move away soon.

I had two younger boys living next door who one day I heard taping outside. They were throwing little stones at my basement window. Of course, I asked them to stop. They did. Next day, they are playing with their hockey sticks sliding their puck on their driveway which is close to my bedroom window.

The next day, the ball they were throwing to each other went in my backyard; I see their mother; I thought....well at least now she will say something to them. What does she do; but go into my yard in the corner where we had planted some seed and gets the ball and gives it back to them.

They did move a couple of years ago. At least now the neighbors have a little 2 yr. old little girl. Both work so hardly anyone is outside my bedroom window. Hang in there.

Sometimes yes

There are times I can't bear the sound of the radio or TV. Sometimes I can hear the humming of electricity in the power cords. If the pain level is high, everything and anything is tough to bear.

Also, very distracting and hard to concentrate because all you hear is the noise, or talking; all of which you would like to tune out; but very difficult.
