New Posts verses Today's Posts

If not logged in, you have "Today's Posts" available.

If logged in, you have "New Posts" available.

Why are they so different?

Sometimes I have to log out and view "Today's Posts" to find a thread and then log back in.

Where do they "go" once you have viewed them? How do you find a "read" post?

I am still learning my way around as Neurotalk is the only forum I have ever used.

I understand the movement of posts after you have viewed them and the message of whether they have been updated or not, but sometimes I can not find them at all unless I log out and go backward in time.

PS I have read the FAQ but still have some confusion.

Some of the difference could be due to your browser, and cookies/cache settings.
Do you check the little "remember me" box when you log in?

That might make a difference too.
I'm always logged in when I am here, so I never really see the Today's posts the way you mention....

If there are specific threads you want to follow , you can click the Thread Tools drop down - and subscribe to that one.
then you will get a screen asking what kind of notice you prefer.

* this might be the easiest way -
You can bookmark/favorite a forum, thread or page- then it is easy to find always.

I have subscribed to several (many) threads and do get "daily" notifications. How many can you subscribe to before you need to "unsubscribe" to older ones?

There are times I will read a post and want to come back to it later to respond but because I have "read" it, it disappears. It may not be a thread that I want to subscribe to, just return to within the same online session.

I have not checked the "Remember me". I guess maybe I should do that and see if that changes anything. I was just wondering how to go back to something I read earlier in the same session.

I usually just go back via the page # tabs if it has moved back a page or 2 , or remember the forum it was in and find it that way..

It shouldn't actually disappear, but maybe needs to be found again another way...
If you can recall the forum & thread title that will help you to find it.

I don't know if there is a cut of # of subscriptions - but you can go into your user CP and remove the oldest ones.

For instance, I just posted a reply to you. Since no one has posted since my reply to you and I have read it, now it is GONE. It does not show up in New Posts. My original thread is not listed, your response is not listed. The only way I could come back to it without "logging out" and looking at "Today's Posts" was to go back to the forum and look for it there.

I guess if someone responds, other than me, AFTER your response it will show up again but otherwise it is not even in the posts below the line. Since I have read your response, it disappeared. Does it go to "read" heaven until someone else responds?

I guess it does as far as the New Posts button use..
won't show up there until a new reply is made.

Once you have read a post...it is no longer a "new" post for you.

Today's Posts are always visible for each day on the "quick links" dropdown tab though

Thanks Chemar,

That info is a tremendous help. I realize that it would no longer be a NEW post, but was logging out to find "Today's Posts" to relocate it. Quick links is working great for me. Thanks again. I would never have thought to go to the Quick Link tab.

I may get the hang of the technology some day. For your sake I hope it will be soon so that I don't have to keep asking for your help.:)
