New weird visual symptom

When I wake up in the night, I see small gray spots all in my line of vision. At first I thought it was bad lighting, but it is still there when I turn the lights on. The spots don't seem to be in the air, they are on objects such as the ceiling and the wall. Last night it went away in a few minutes. The night before, it stayed until I went back to sleep. It was gone in the morning. Everything looks normal right now. Anybody have any ideas?

Hi Celeste,

When you say it was "grey" it reminds me of my torn retina. I had one big grey glob in my visual field (only the left eye) a few years ago. The grey went away that morning, then I saw rainbows around lights for a while. Then it went away. I had flashing lights after that. It was a fluid from behind the retina which caused the grey. It was painless when it happened and I hesitated to get it checked out. When I did, it was laser surgery.

Dang. I hope it's not something like that.

A detached retina is not something you should wait to have repaired. I would call your eye doc ASAP or maybe even visit an ER if you think that's what is going on. I had a relative who had a detached retina and learned it can go bad quickly. I hope it is nothing serious but if it might be, don't wait..

Right now, my vision is normal. There is nothing weird going on. It has happened 4 times I think.
