thrush anyone?

i was due for a 3rd shot this afternoon, but yesterday i realized i had an awful case of thrush. my tongue was white and it had little white blisters underneath and the roof of my mouth is all splotchy and red and sore. i couldn't eat today - a little bit of jello and a cup of ice cream. it hurts to swallow. the pain doc prescribed diflucan for the infection... 1 pill yesterday and 1 pill tomorrow. i suppose it looks better today, but it sure doesn't feel like it.

i read that thrush is a side effect of steroids, but i've never seen it in an adult - well, except for one woman who was dying of cancer.

i am so tired of things creeping up. my arm is holding its own today and i even made it thru therapy without crying. i guess i can find peace in that, huh?

Wow, thanks! I have issues with thrush too, and my Dr. and I never even considered that it might be from the rsd! I have aids also, so although my T-cell count is a little too high for me to be getting thrush, we always attributed the thrush to the aids anyway. It's nice to learn all the little tidbits I learn from this site, knowledge makes dealing with all this much easier. :)

Thrush

Hi,

I've been dealing with Thrush for approx. the last 4 years. I seem to get it at least 3 times a year...normally it takes 2 doses of meds to get it to clear up. My Drs all think that it's brought on because of the meds that I take ( my mouth is very dry all of the time, a side effect of the meds). I've been using Biotene tooth paste and mouth wash which has seemed to help cut down on the number of times I get it and the severity of it. Biotene is an antibacterial dry mouth toothpaste and mouthwash ( I can buy it at both Target or Walgreens). My Dentist recommended it to me. They also make a couple of other items, gum being one of them. Hope this is helpful to you.

no thanks, but thanks for the offer anyway.....

I second the Biotene recommendation; my mouth is dry as [insert metaphor here] from all the meds I take, and the Biotene mouthwash helps a lot. And my rude children tell me that it makes my bad breath much better!

ideas from Mayo

I went on the Mayo clinic site and a few others looking for info. My daughter just recovered from a nasty case of strep--funny, considering she wasn't getting out at the time! This intrigued me because the description of her throat sounded like the same type of thing. Here is a link that may help-
