Question about neuropathic specialty centers
Hi,
I am looking at getting a skin punch biopsy. My neurologist is not sure if it are available here in New Mexico, and so I may have to go out of state. My insurance does not care how far I go, as long as the facility participates in the "multiplan" program (which many do). I think that if I have to go out of state, I would rather go to the most helpful place rather than simply the closest. I would like to hear what people have to say about their experiences at various facilities--especially people with small fiber neuropathy. Since I would be going by myself, and I feel crappy many days, it would be especially useful to me to know how the experience was for you outside of the doctor visit/testing as well--for example ease of getting around the facility, getting to the airport/hotel, etc. Finally, how easy was it to get the facility to communicate with your doctor at home. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate your help! |
Hello zoealleyne
Hi, and welcome to Neuro Talk. When researching a facility, try to pick a teaching hospital or facility. I had a number of punch biopsies, at a hospital Mayo Clinic referred me to. Columbia university medical center, in Columbia Missouri. I had a 9 year long trial study there for an unrelated condition. I found this teaching institute top notch. See who is near your area. Also there may be others on NT. who can tell you who is nearer to you. I wish you all the best. ginnie :grouphug:
