Blunt trauma to back of head
 

I was assaulted on jan 1 2013. I had my head punched into a edged door casing.The back lower left of skull was took the impact. Felt strange did not go to hospital went into work.72 hours after started to sway all over the place . Dr said it was vertigo and gave me pills that did not help.this swaying still persisted and on 10 day was taking to er because of severe migraine that presented its self like stroke. Ct scan came back fine.i did not think it had to do with my head injury so I came back home.For2 solid months I was constantly vomiting 10 times daily. My vision was having black spots than I would only see half of objects.i had weird sensations of water pouring throughout my brain.Break out in sweats had to make myself breath and had a very high heart rate.In Feb had MRI that came back normal. EEG was normal.After all these sensations cleared I'm still left with a constant elavator motion in brain while walking is not provoked or stoped by anything. My brain feels very stiff and where I took the hit there is a constant burning sensation.my hearing is fine I have 20/20 vision but my left eye creates a weird sensation through my brain that feels very stiff.The nurologist doesn't know what it is seeing its not producing any out word signs really confused as to what this could be as the symptoms are constant for 9 months and showing no break.

Symptoms you describe are consistent with post-concussion syndrome, so you found the right place. It's not unusual that the MRI came back normal; concussion injury often doesn't show in standard medical imaging. For example diffuse axonal injury is common with concussions and won’t show up on a MRI or CT scan.

One suggestion would be to see a MD that specializes in Physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatrist) that is familiar with mTBI. They may be able to better pinpoint the causes and treatment for the vertigo and other symptoms you describe. Vestibular rehabilitation therapy might also be helpful, but I'd have the physiatrist make that call.

Thank you for your response. It doesn't feel like normal vertigo I had a few bouts of it when younger that were brought of by ear infections. Is it normal to be constant while walking. I have an ent appointment the end of oct hopefully they will be able to pick up some. I would have to travel a couple of provinces to get to see the special dr you suggested free health care is always good lol.Thank you again!:):):)

I also received a concussion (now over 2 years ago) and experience similar symptoms.

My left eye and side of the brain (near impact site) tingles when I read or concentrate. I can also feel my brain tingling when I walk, run or physically exert myself.

Unfortunately the above symptoms and others have not improved since the injury. They may be permanent so I am taking steps to manage them.

I had an MRI, CAT scan and other tests which were all clear. Although I was diagnosed with right beating nystagmus which is indicative of vestibular damage.

There are however people who do recover so try and stay positive. Get plenty of rest. Many people do not rest until it is very late in the game which slows their recovery.

Read the stickies on vitamins. There is plenty of support and good people here.

I had concusion symptoms before all through high school and they went away when I was around 21. They were the typical post concusion symptoms. But theses symptoms don't seem to be. Even when layed down I have very stiff head and burning sensations constant at back of head where took impact. The eye feels stiff throughout brain but no rapid movements. I can not walk hardly from sensations in head feeling like an extra set of feet are walking in my brain while I'm walking its the hardest sensation to describe.i always have dealt with insominia but this isn't normal when I go to sleep for 20 mins I go into a dream and wake up. Same cycle over and over again from the time I lay down. Upon any body movements even while layed down I get a rising sensation in head like it is taken a second to to processes. It has disabled me to the point I can't do nothing. I fear I sustained two many concusions as child and teen probably 5 and 1 last year as an adult. The force of the head trauma was great. Hopefully they will go away or lessen to the point where they are manageable.

Welcome to NT and sorry to hear about your situation. Some of the symptoms you describe sound like your nervous system is "stuck" in fight-flight mode. This can happen with TBI. To calm your system down, try some relaxation exercises and controlled breathing -- breathe in to a slow count of 5, and breathe out to a slow count of 5. I had terrible sleep disturbances after my TBI in 2004 - couldn't sleep past 3 a.m. ever... and my system was stuck in fight-flight mode for years, before I learned how to calm it down.

I have also had terrible vertigo problems - which have come back recently, probably because I've been in high gear for a work project for weeks, now, and my system is fried. The more stressed I am, the worse my vertigo feels.

What happened: Sustained mild TBI #9(+) when I fell down a flight of stairs and smacked the back of my head on the steps. Knocked out briefly, then bounced back and resumed everyday life, as usual. Over the coming year, things fell apart -- lost my job, friends disappeared, wife became terrified of me, money flew out the window, and I had no idea it was all happening, or why. Finally put things together in 2007, when I was researching brain injury for a family member. Have been actively working with a neuropsych and recovering since late 2007, with amazing results I never thought possible. Having another person in your corner makes all the difference.

Symptoms: fatigue, tinnitis, sensitivity to light and noise and touch, insomnia, general pain, headache, attention issues, emotional lability, panic/anxiety, anger spikes, raging behavior, confusion, difficulty understanding, trouble hearing, slowed processing speed, limited short-term working memory, balance & vertigo issues, difficulty reading and learning new things, nystagmus and tremors when tired.

I was hit had in cerebellum region could this have anything to do with my symptoms
