A good find
Ursolic acid-
ursocholanic acid- From- Brain (2013) doi: 10.1093/brain/awt224 Ursocholanic acid rescues mitochondrial function in common forms of familial Parkinson’s disease - "... Of 15 compounds, two were chosen for subsequent functional studies, namely ursocholanic acid and the related compound dehydro(11,12)ursolic acid lactone. Both compounds markedly increased the activity of all four complexes of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. The naturally occurring compound ursolic acid and the licensed drug ursodeoxycholic acid are chemically closely related to ursocholanic acid and dehydro(11,12)ursolic acid lactone. All four substances rescue mitochondrial function to a similar extent ...." From- Science Daily June 7, 2011 Apple Ingredient Keeps Muscles Strong: Component of Apple Peels Found to Help Prevent Muscle Weakening in Mice "....The researchers next gave ursolic acid to fasted mice. Those experiments showed that ursolic acid could protect against muscle weakening as predicted. When ursolic acid was added to the food of normal mice for a period of weeks, their muscles grew. Those effects were traced back to enhanced insulin signaling in muscle and to corrections in the gene signatures linked to atrophy....." Common in the body building world, here are some sources.= http://epharmnutrition.com/ursobolic.php http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page...ursolic%20acid Note that this seems to be the herb known as "holy basil" (very common) Talk to your doc first but it seems to be a slam dunk.
